The above depicted items are complete with the additional ring UOORF... which in this case (see the VERY OLD previous posts of this thread... ;)) is NOT the code of a hood, despite the double "O"

who knows ?...anyway one of these is a 16508 !! :D and NOOKY - SOOKY are not HOODS

I have a NOOKY, or is it a NOOKY-HESUM how do you tell the difference

That's simple... Nooky was for the Elmar, the HESUM suffix means that it's a slightly modificated mount to accomodate HEktor and SUMmar (and, later, Summitar too), for the same purpose of near distances focusing. The name of the coupling lens is engravend in front of the ring.

Thanks JC; I was wondering if my HESUM could be used with my recently acquired screw mount Summicron. You have just answered my question before I asked it. Regards, David :p

Take care !

You need to have the one for Summicron or the one for Summitar (engraved on the front ring)

(sorry to "play JC"... :o) SOOKY, by itself, works only with collapsible Summicrons; fixed mount Summicrons can be used if they are of the versions with removable lenshead, but you need also the adapter ring UOORF/16508 (see JC pics above - which of course refer to the M mount SOOKY-M/SOMKY, but the adapter rings, fitted onto, are the same)

My Summicron is collapsible. The HESUM is engraved SUMMITAR, SUMMAR u. HECTOR 5cm. Is that OK? Rgds, David

Oh - hum... ... iphoenix, let me say that JC statements are always to be SERIOUSLY considered... he says that Summicron COULD fit a NOOKY-HESUM... I wrote my "Sorry, not..." simply thinking of the fact that if Leitz did listed a device named SOOKY, almost identical to the NOOKY-HESUM (which stood on the pricelist) and declared it "for Summicron", this means that one cannot use Summicron on NOOKY-HESUM... by logic.

I haven't the NOOKY-HESUM (nor the SOOKY) but have Summitar and Summicron rectratable : let's give a look to them when fully rectracted (Summicron at right)

(taken, of course, with SOOKY-M / Cron 50 onto M8... ;))

Clearly the distance from flange to the bottom of tube, where are the blades that engage into the Sooky/Nooky-Hesum is significantly smaller in the Summicron... my idea is that it cannot "reach" the receptacles for the blades that are inside the Nooky-Hesum : can you verify this, please ? These kind of questions have always intrigued me (as JC knows well... remember the "Telyt 280 thread" ? ;))

Handling the above old lenses, I observed another thing, looking at their backs : the three engaging blades don't look EXACTLY in the same position along the tube's end circle... and indeed i tried to engage the Summitar in my SOOKY-M and didn't succeed (the Summicron, of course, does engage) : this could be another proof...but imho is not a definitive argument... can be an oddity of MY Summitar (very old, maybe repaired...) : my Leitz catalog of 1961 states that SOOKY-M (whose front mount is much different from SOOKY) can mount "any 50mm SM lens, except Summarit and Summilux" , and indeed I can mount on it old Elmar, Hektor, new Elmar 2,8 etc... just not the Summitar.

Thank you Luigi; You are correct. The bayonet blades on the base of the Summicron do not enter the Nooky-Hesum far enough to engage and lock in. At a guess I would say they are about 5mm short. Thank you also JC. My faith in you as an "Oracle" on Leica is not diminished. Kind regards to both. David

THIS IS NOT IN DISCUSSION ! :)

I'm anyway glad to have my speculation confirmed... I'd be curios to inspect a SOOKY (can be that if I find one for sale.... ;))

I've got a SOOKY which is for a Summicron and a NOOKY Hesum which is as Luigi says above however the one I've got doesn't have the range numbers engraved on the side.

Here's a link below BTW which explains all of these close focusing devices, page 40.

Mine are up for sale if anyone's interested.

Luigi/JC; I did not intend there to be any negative inferences in my post. JC; if you were offended, I apologise sincerely. Luigi; I feel I should be more clear with my words in any future posts. No guarantees, but I will try very, very hard.:o

Not offended at all :)

As I said I am far to my items at that moment and I said only to make a try.

I own the 3 model : the SOOKY for the Elmar 3.5/50

the SOOKY HESUM for the Summar, the Summitar and the Hektor

and the NOOKY for the Summicon collapsible.(also the other 50 collapsibles)

I am looking for a post made by PhilippeD about on summilux.net
