Advertisement Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi roguewave, Take a look here summicron 40 vs rokkor 40. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
graeme_hutton Posted March 27, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2008 I think I'd read that the coatings and filter sizes were different but I wouldn't swear by it. The 40 'cron is a cracking little lens. Graeme
Ivar B Posted March 27, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2008 I know users saying that the Rokkor 40 (latest version) from the CLE is a better lens, in particular due to improved coating.
lct Posted March 27, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2008 You might wish to take a look on this thread i opened 2 years ago. Since then i realised that the Rokkor did not focus properly on my Epsons at short distance, reason why i don't use it any more, but a lot of photogs are quite happy with it AFAIK. roguewave Posted March 27, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted March 27, 2008 lct, thanks for the link. That's quite a dissertaion on this topic. Suffice it to say, that both lenses are fine instruments. I'm trying to put together a very small kit for shooting in the NYC subway. The f.2 40 & the VC 15 f4.5 sre my lens choices and I'd like a small metered body like the CL. The CL is a lot louder than my M3, but a whole lot smaller , lighter & has a built in meter. Thanks again for the help.
fordfanjpn Posted March 28, 2008 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2008 If you want a small, fast 40, check out the CV Nokton 40/1.4. I have one that I use on both the M8 and a Bessa R3M. Great little lens, and inexpensive. Bill
andym911 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ben unfortunately I have never used the Rokkor, the Cron 40 seems to be very good on the CL,I can't fault it yet, only had it for a couple of weeks but seems to deliver. Here a quick daylight shot from the weekend..Nice contrast and very sharp IMO. Shot on Neopan 400. Andy Welcome, dear visitor! rob_x2004 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 1, 2008 Straight out of the box Andy or some selected curves work?
andym911 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #9 Posted April 1, 2008 Darkened the shadows, added some contrast and sharpened for web. Finally warmed it a touch (+2) in LR. Regards Andy
rob_x2004 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #10 Posted April 1, 2008 It might not be indicative of the qualities of that lens then. Its very nice but maybe a bit misleading? Welcome, dear visitor! rob_x2004 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #14 Posted April 1, 2008 It is still really handling the mid tones to shadows transition very differently to a lot of lenses I have ever seen. With your good depth of field on the subject only, and who I guess then is sitting a bit more in the sun, you are really getting a pop. Works well with your edit technique. Wonder if some of the Neopan brains trust could comment on the bottom end and shadows? There was someone flinging round with a sumarit or sumar? or something and getting similar results. Never book marked it though.
andym911 Posted April 1, 2008 Share #15 Posted April 1, 2008 Rob thanks for the comments. I know what you mean with the midtones and shadows. It handles them really well and I think has a special look.OTOH Ishot some stuff using the 35 V4 cron on another thread (First Neopan) and got similar results. I believe however that the developer plays a big role in this, I could be wrong and now way claim to be an expert at all, far from it, but the combination of Neopan and HC110 gives a really attractive look IMO. maybe some others will chime in. regards andy
