Did you have the M3 rangefinder installed in that M2, or did you find it like that? And what a beautiful lens!

Lex

Hi Lex,

I found it with the M3 RF unit installed. And it is from the first batch of 200 M2 cameras built in 1957.

JMF, I assume that you have photoshopped away the SN?  The actual top plate has one?  Beautiful camera.

Edit: never mind, I think I see the same camera (with the SN) further up this page.

My M2  is one of a batch of 1000 assembled in Midland, Canada in 1960. Interesting to see that Leica Mayfair have one of this batch for sale in similar condition, and they describe it as 'very rare'. I know only sales speak, but adds to the already high appreciation of this M2.

Thanks but this M2 top cover has no engraved sn !

Here is another button M2  (from 1958) without a sn and no photoshop was involved 🙂

Said it here before but will say it again:  Leica got something right with the M2.  Best viewfinder on any M camera period.

Could be better if modern coating is applied to the glasses. Today I unintentionally found my M9-P viewfinder looks much dehazed than my M2 and M4.

Somewhere I heard that it was common for PJs--perhaps in Vietnam--to carry extra take-up spools "pre-loaded" with film.  I'm not sure this would make the film-loading process that much faster, but maybe I'm wrong.  Was this a common practice for photojournalists carrying M3s and M2s?

Bucket-list "twofer": M2-R and black paint (repaint because I can't afford an original bp).

I registered here 22 years ago, but it took me a little while to get my first M, but now we're finally here! :)

Found a nice M2 locally at a decent price so I couldn't resist. Haven't finished the first roll of film through it yet, but will Saturday.

Enjoy it very much! Put an LLL magnifier on it.

Oh, no, JMF and Hydet please stop showing these beautiful black chrome M2s as I might not be able to resist even though I have a chrome M2!

I thought I wasn't so sure about the look of the white engravings on the black chrome M2 body (because I didn't like the white markings on my M7 body) but in your photos it does look very appealing.

I suppose I could get my Chrome M2 repainted black chrome? Or just sell it and forget about an M2 and never visit this thread ever again so I'm not tempted to buy it again.

Cheers

Or keep and enjoy your silver M2 as is !
