Did you have the M3 rangefinder installed in that M2, or did you find it like that? And what a beautiful lens!

Lex

Hi Lex,

I found it with the M3 RF unit installed. And it is from the first batch of 200 M2 cameras built in 1957.

My M2  is one of a batch of 1000 assembled in Midland, Canada in 1960. Interesting to see that Leica Mayfair have one of this batch for sale in similar condition, and they describe it as 'very rare'. I know only sales speak, but adds to the already high appreciation of this M2.

JMF, I assume that you have photoshopped away the SN?  The actual top plate has one?  Beautiful camera.

Edit: never mind, I think I see the same camera (with the SN) further up this page.

Thanks but this M2 top cover has no engraved sn !

Here is another button M2  (from 1958) without a sn and no photoshop was involved 🙂

Somewhere I heard that it was common for PJs--perhaps in Vietnam--to carry extra take-up spools "pre-loaded" with film.  I'm not sure this would make the film-loading process that much faster, but maybe I'm wrong.  Was this a common practice for photojournalists carrying M3s and M2s?

Bucket-list "twofer": M2-R and black paint (repaint because I can't afford an original bp).
