Guest imported_stefan_r Posted September 8, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2006 the middle composition is some boring to me.. placing him at the edge of the picture, would make it more interesting. I even would crop him his head of, making the viewer ask questions!

albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2006 The cropped feet kinda bothers me actually. I think that timing it so that you would have shot out the back feet would be helpful?
semrich Posted September 8, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted September 8, 2006 Stefan = Thanks for your input, now I can feel more comfortable posting some of my shots with headless people. With this one my composition was for the expanse of chinese writing in different stages of drying and the long shadows from his brush. Stay tuned for some headless elements, I have one in mind. Indeed, I never thought of composing him headless because I felt the angle of his hat and the dark glasses portrayed his artistic flair. Albert - Thanks, In a crowded tourist site I was lucky to get this with the light, shadow and characters with only one person in the background, there were plenty more people on the way. albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't be scared to cut off heads in photos. I think that Ralph Gibson did wonderfully in this respect. Break convention. You won't regret it.

stuny Posted September 9, 2006 Share #9 Posted September 9, 2006 Richard - I actually prefer the original, capturing both the relaxed state of the caligrapher, and as you point out, the progress of the drying characters. As usual, terrific tones.
