andit Posted March 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, Any thoughts or comments on the new Ricoh R8. After having looked around for a really long time, I found that the R8, and previous Ricoh's, have an Interval Timer built in as standard. With the M8 and others, I have to have the camera tethered to a computer. Any experiences with Ricoh's cameras? Andreas PS: An interval timer lets you set the camera to take pictures at a specified interval, such as every 30 seconds or so. I know that Canon offers a timer remote that you can use, while other manufacturers, including Leica, let you do this when the camera is attached to a computer. 4season Posted March 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 16, 2008 It looks like a very nice little camera--if you need a tiny camera with a super zoom. I carry a Ricoh GX100 alongside my M8, partly as a backup, but also because it can focus down to 0.5 cm. At current prices, the GX100 costs just $40 more than the R8, but offers DNG output and full manual control over aperture, shutter and focus. Best of all, I can process those raw files with Silkypix or Aperture 2.0, same as with my M8. The R8, on the other hand, appears to be JPEG-only. martinb Posted March 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2008 I had a look at the review and the results looked poor. I guess this happens with a small sensor and many pixels. I wish the manufacturers would learn! Wouldn't it be great to see 5-6mp point & shoots with good noise control, zero noise reduction and decent dynamic range. I would for sure pay for it!
