Advertisement Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Hi Guest guy_mancuso, Take a look here The M8 puzzle game. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted September 13, 2006 Share #282 Posted September 13, 2006 Yes kind favor indeed... as long as we don't need to change the SD card though otherwise we'll have to detach the tripod as well. Do we know this or are we guessing? What about the slot on the side that can be seen in the magnesium casing?

pascal_meheut Posted September 13, 2006 Share #284 Posted September 13, 2006 The slot on the magnesium casing is for USB or firewire. And yes, you'll have to remove the bottom to change the SD card or the battery. I know this for sure and you can trust me.
sfage Posted September 13, 2006 Share #285 Posted September 13, 2006 I watched the video. It appears to write to the card pretty quickly.
sean_reid Posted September 13, 2006 Share #286 Posted September 13, 2006 Michael always re-dates his updates by a day or so; he, he! He usually launches the night before the date he lists for the item. But this time nothing will go live on LL about new Leica products until the 15th. Cheers, Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 13, 2006 Share #287 Posted September 13, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes the bottom plate you can see in one of the photos where it is lying down. may not be the best solution but it looks like it keeps the bottom side clean and it does protect the battery and SD card which could also make it more water resistent, than just a push open door like we see on P&S camera's. Maybe a bad design for some but this actually may not be a bad thing at all except for having a part in your hand when changing a card or batterty. This thing will suck batteries no question in my mind. Better order a extra right off the bat. the DMR a second battery is a must have about 250 shots and i would expect this to be in that same range. small battery big LCD

Well, at least SD cards are more reasonably priced these days than what they were when the D2 came out and the speed and capacity has improved as well. We do, after all, have to remove the bottom plate on the Ms to change films.Unless the files are larger than 55MB each we'll get more than 36 exposures on a 2GB card.... cbretteville Posted September 13, 2006 Share #289 Posted September 13, 2006 I watched the video. It appears to write to the card pretty quickly. So does the D2 if you use jpegs.....
rosuna Posted September 13, 2006 Share #290 Posted September 13, 2006 I like the detachable bottom plate. You can see it here: http://www.lightmediation.com/blog/images/pierre/2006-09/leica_164.jpg
Philippe D. Posted September 13, 2006 Share #291 Posted September 13, 2006 Hi, I watched the video. It appears to write to the card pretty quickly. As far as i have understanded, the firmware is not finished yet, so no pictures has been taken, that's why it goes so quickly.
jlm Posted September 13, 2006 Share #292 Posted September 13, 2006 has anyone figured yet out what the blue dot is for?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 13, 2006 Share #293 Posted September 13, 2006 LOL there is no blue dot but just a reflection and some coating on it
Leicaiste Posted September 13, 2006 Share #294 Posted September 13, 2006 You can see here the slit in the camera bayonet. It's there to read the 6 bits on the lens mount. http://macandphoto.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/leica_m8_mg_1556_web_1.jpg Welcome, dear visitor! Bob Ross Posted September 13, 2006 Share #295 Posted September 13, 2006 And take a look at the reflection in the eyepiece window--to my eye clearly a completely redesigned 'back end' to the VF. That will mean (I hope) that we eyeglass wearers will be able to see the full frame!!! (Of course, it's just possible one or another of us has erred somewhere in our wishes and visions... ) --HC That is a good observation and I also hope that they have improved the eye piece. Did you notice in the menu, it says DNG down the list except for DNR-jpg fine? A tyo:eek: Bob
marknorton Posted September 13, 2006 Share #296 Posted September 13, 2006 I'm pleased they hava removable base, avoids lots of difficult-to-engineer-well doors. It will be interesting to see what's inside and wonder whether there could be add on sections for functions like additional power and wi-fi connectivity, Concerning the menus, there's a significant level of abbreviation which for English users may not be so apparent. A rule of thumb is that a system translated into Franch and German requires up to 30% more "white" space to say the same thing compared to English. marknorton Posted September 13, 2006 Share #297 Posted September 13, 2006 So don't sleep in all day Friday, there'll be some interesting reading that isn't being covered by the paparazzi reviewers. Sean seems to be hinting that there's something about this camera which is going to surprise us all, something which has been consistently overlooked by people who have handled the camera. This will be interesting...
mitchell Posted September 13, 2006 Share #298 Posted September 13, 2006 I have it on good authority that the main reason for the removeable base is to allow easy replacement, i.e., updating of the sensor. (just kidding.)

(just kidding.) Yes, to upgrade the sensor, you remove the baseplate, throw the rest away and then attach it to the new camera...
rosuna Posted September 13, 2006 Share #300 Posted September 13, 2006 I like the camera. It looks terrific. The 28/2,8 ASPH looks terrific too. This is my first lens of choice.
