The only thing i wish it did have was some sort of small grip on the front. i know not very M like but easier to hold. That one bothers me a little. I wonder if there is a leather hand grip like the DMR setup. Hmmm Luigi has some work to do, for him this maybe a great half case to be working on

New dimentions as well as the tripod socket being centered (yay!) means we can't carry over grips from the film Ms. Luigi will probably make a half case with a gripp. If the bottom plate is just a mechanical cover I can't see why someon like Photo Equip or Tom Abrahamsson couldn't make a replacement plate with a grip.

Oh my! The release catch is now on the other end of the baseplate, just where the grip goes. That complicates things.

For a moment I had the idea of drilling holes for internally flush grip attachment screws in a replacement baseplate - sacrilege :D - with the change that's out of the question.

Besides the SF 24 flash that was intended for the M series , is it possible to use a Metz -54. i don't care about TTL just A mode is fine like my DMR. If i can use this to do corporate event stuff than this may make my decision a little easier. or easier to sell the idea to my wife.:D

I mentioned the M8 to her last night and i got the stare for at least 6 seconds. that was a long time, usually it is a 2 second you really are crazy look. this was more serious:D

I like Pascal's idea of a replacement base-plate with an integrated grip - having a secure hold of this thing is going to be an issue now there's no wind-on lever. All depends on whether there are other accessories to attach to the bottom, things like a larger battery pack, wi-fi connection, dockable base, that sort of thing.

I very much like theidea of the removeable base-plate...

Guy you've left it quite late to mention to SWMBO about the M8. Mine has been carefully and systematically briefed about it and knows that something is happening tomorrow to make me distracted and that I'm off to Germany for the day on 26th. The second body and the tri-elmar are not yet part of her knoweldge-base though...

That'll be the dockable base with "Kodak" written on it, will it, Mark?

;)

I actually like that idea - but I like the idea of a Bluetooth or WiFi unit more. However, a dockable base unit would have the advantage of being able to recharge the battery at the same time - a serious failing on the DMR if you ask me.

Mark you certainly planned ahead well and still kept something in reserve , your respect value just went up immensely. LOL Something we can learn from:D

My MO is buy it and just take the hits.

i do like the idea of the removeable plate and adding grips and such. I will ask my friend Jim at Brightscreen to start looking at this . he has made focusing screens , magnifiers and other things for the DMR. He would love this challenge

I think messing about with cables and cards is bad news, much better to have a cradle which, as Andy says, could allow you to recharge. Only concern there is that the battery can get warm while being charged and Li-Ion batteries have had some bad press recently. It would be not be good to watch your pride-and-joy self-destruct in front of you.

I use wi-fi on my Nikon D2X and it's great to have the pictures appear on the PC as you shoot - obviously most relevant for indoor macro use, so in the context of the M8, most useful for just uploading wirelessly.

If you remember back to the very first RFF spy-shots, there was a 7 page product announcement memo with just the first few lines shown, but enough to know that there are 4 items (M8, T-E, 28mm, "Universal" Finder) being launched plus accessories to go with them. So here's hoping...

A grip...hmmm...interesting idea. <G>

That was rather good, Mark!:D

.. or to upgrade the sensor, you (let the factory?) remove the display including the sensor below it, throw it away and attach a new (crop 1:1 e.g.) senor-display module to the rest of the old camera ..

Okay one more request, i love thinking about this stuff. 2 words: Shift lens

This is going to be a tough day , we get just a trickle of info yesterday , today we ponder it all and can't wait for the clock to hit 12 am. tommorow we start robbing bank accounts. Sounds like a glorious week. Damn i need to get some coffee

And poor Sean just wants to get this info out and is dying a slow burn here. LOL

I will admit this is a lot of fun and also a historical time for leica.

Exactly Kurt i can get that damn thing under my arm pit . The DMR is like i went and bought a truck. LOL

This is just fun for me because i am interested in the design and build of these things. Leica is one the very few who actually think about the shooter when they design stuff.
