...Either the experienced old codgers out there (and a few young whippersnappers too) are so expert that one can fully trust them to guide choices in life, or the questioner has so little self esteem that it is difficult to make up one's own mind without the warm fuzziness of the support of others. If I sound harsh, I'm not, because I know people on both sides of this fence and sympathize with their quandries.

Not that harsh, just a bit rethorical perhaps. It is a photo forum here, maybe you don't know some list members in person but you know their photographs and/or their tastes or experience more or less so you might be interested to ask their advice about lenses or bodies. I'm used to use M lenses for instance but not at all R ones so when i purchased some of them i asked Conrad, Steve and other fellow members the same way as i ask more specialized colleagues in my job. A good way to reduce error margins you can trust me.
