Advertisement Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Hi alexc, Take a look here Universal Battery Charger from Delkin. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JumpStart Posted February 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2008 I know the president of Delkin, and he came by my booth at PMA. He said it is compatible. It charges 2 batteries at once, and is a reasonable $59.95 I think. Hope this helps DBK
alexc Posted February 7, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted February 7, 2008 The rep from Delkin ( David) just called me back. What he said to me is that if there is a demand they will make plates for M8. My understanding is that that at this time they dont have compartible plates. If your information is different can you clarify which plates will work with M8

What would be the best way for us to push convince Delkin to make the plates needed for the M8? On-line poll here, or is there someone to contact directly at Delkin? Shootist Posted February 7, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2008 But what plate/s do you order to work with the Leica M8 batteries???? That is the real question. I see they have 3 pages of plates but no real cross reference to what camera or battery model they work with, at least not that I could see.
Shootist Posted February 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2008 The rep from Delkin ( David) just called me back. What he said to me is that if there is a demand they will make plates for M8. My understanding is that that at this time they dont have compartible plates. If your information is different can you clarify which plates will work with M8 Since you seem to have the direct line to the owner tell him there are at least 10,000 M8 owners that would be interested. Guest WPalank Posted February 7, 2008 Share #11 Posted February 7, 2008 Addendum to my post above. I got almost an immediate friendly reply from Mr. Dave McGhee to my e-mail stating that he forwarded my e-mail to "our battery product manager". Speenth Posted February 7, 2008 Share #13 Posted February 7, 2008 Folks, before the forum collectively plunges into a deal with Delkin to make an exclusive plate for the M8 on an otherwise run-of-the-mill charger, I hope you won't mind if I post a reminder that our good friends, fellow forum members and all round good eggs, Wilson Laidlaw and Tim Isaacs are working hard in the background to develop an exclusive M8 charger. I hope anyone interested will do the same thing. If we can demonstrate a strong interest, they'll be much more likely to produce the needed plates--probably fairly simple for them to do. Shootist Posted February 7, 2008 Share #15 Posted February 7, 2008 Email sent. As to Wilson and Tim making a specific M8 battery charger I hadn't known this. In any event I would buy one of there's also.
Guest stnami Posted February 7, 2008 Share #16 Posted February 7, 2008 They don't have too many plates so the universal part of the charger is a bit misleading. sent them a list of cameras they only had a couple............... the usual we are working on it. Anytime there is only one highly demanded widget to do x job, the manufacturer and marketing team can set the price anywhere they want to. Quite so, but this isn't about price (yet), its about specification. This forum has commissioned its Isaacs-Laidlaw design team to build the better mousetrap. I can buy the Acme mousetrap anywhere but I want something better. I'm pleased to give Tim and Wilson a little more time to get their concept off the drawing board because I'll still be able to turn to Delkin at any time in the future if Tim and Wilson can't beat the Delkin offering. But if we stymie our good friends now, our only ongoing options will be the Frankencharger, or the Delkin and its peers and we'll always be wondering if Tim and Wilson might have given us something much better, more exclusive and much more satisfying. I vote to give our own design team a little more time.
simon_hughes Posted February 7, 2008 Share #19 Posted February 7, 2008 With all due respect to Tim and Wilson, this (Delkin) product is already a done deal with only a relatively cheap insert to develop. I can't imagine that they (Tim & Wilson) would continue with their project unless they are a) much farther ahead than I perceive, and have a very good business case. The thing to remember here is that the Delkin product spreads it's cost over a much wider battery base, only developing inexpensive inserts to add additional capability. This is a much better ROI model than a battery charger unique to the M8 battery. I don't know about others here, but I'd much rather have one charger that I could use, for example, for my M8, GRDII and V-Lux 1 batteries simply by changing an insert. JumpStart Posted February 8, 2008 Share #20 Posted February 8, 2008 I forgot about the efforts of the forum members. Not to put a controversy together, but what if Tim et al did the plates. They might be more profitable for them, and less expensive. Just my thoughts DBK
