Lectio variant:

1), Mere provocation to increase number of website visitors.

2), Failure, that will be solved in a short time, everything goes back to original conditions.

3), Leica users forum is a minority of costumers who will stick to Leica gear anyway, every one else is satisfied & delighted with story based marketing strategies. Selling rates are increasing, thanks to new intro.

BUT will this affect our capturing habits? There must be some way to get directly to the conventional site. Lets find it out together.

Regards,

Jeno

Leica M,

where does this site show this,

flashy, M, no flash,

bare essentials,

a shmucked up ad site.

I daubted,

don't care or,

a ghost of what leica used to be.

I'll be out looking for pics,

not websites.

I buy a Leica because it is a highly engineered piece of machinery and I want a website that gives me the same worthy experience as buying grommits from a damn good old-fashioned ironmongers.

It's a generational thing - I get it from my father, and his father - a love of artisan qualiity.

I can't believe that there are 18 peope that actually like this website.

Are the marketing people and/or company logging on and skewing the poll in an attempt to save their jobs?

I have said it before, and I shall say it again...

We are not the target demographic.

Bill,

I'm not sure they know what demographic they (the marketing firm?) should be targeting. Just because a demographic hasn't been targeted before doesn’t mean that it's a viable market demographic now. And, do you alienate (or mildly insult) your current market demographic for the sake of a new one? We're not talking about $19.95 watches here!

All of my comments about the new Website have been made with some tongue-in-cheek. Many companies have gone through this type of re-branding or plus-branding effort. Some fail, some succeed, some just whimper and try again (with a marketing firm less enamored with its own reflection).

The unprofessional way the Website was put together, as an introduction that displayed many functional problems, just seemed silly, ludicrous and not well thought out. Leica depends heavily on its Website for communication about its products for both customers and sales personnel. Just how, you might explain to me, does Leica think it will get a different demographic to view their Website? Is there some magic button on YouTube that their new demographic will push? Oh, oh, I know, Leica will have a link on the Armani Website, or maybe the Paris Hilton Website.

Obviously I've got far too much time on my hands right now. I get easily distracted beween cases and start meddling. The employees cringe and run for the dark corners when I don't have enough to do. I just love critiquing someone else's affairs.

But this Leica Website situation actually saddens me a little. I thought Leica had overcome these "stumbles".

The flash intro is more then clumsy, doesn't connect to the product and it goes on foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever. The navigation in the intro sucks.... all the blinking arrow things and trailing cursers. Did I mention trailing cursers....

I don't mind a bit of flash on the entrance page put make it quick and provide a link to skip right to the content or have some good navigation. I think the into page like it is right now can go right up there with the worst pages on the WWW.

Is this still Leica???

Who is the demographic? I figure that the demographic the thing is aimed at doesnt bother turning on a computer anyway, so with typical Leica incompetence they miss the mark again.

Such a pain in the arse to find even the basic info, Its like Leica dont want you to have it. I wonder if the company is run by idiots, dreamers or the easily lead.

How about a picture Ernst Leitz and also Oscar Barnack on the front pages and then if you want have 'fade-ins', etc.use famous Leica photographers and photographs...Or the Leica cameras from the past leading up to the present.

Show the heritage, the history - even new markets are built on that - is it all that difficult to figure out????
