I like the mood very much, but to determine exactly how successful this image is I'll have to wait until I'm home -- my work monitor is rather inferior. But this does look promising. What is between the camera and the model? It seems to be something like an unfolded, clear shower curtain.

I would have thrown a little more lightbox (softbox) towards the model. Hard to distinguish the details or lighten up in PS for more details on her face and clothes.

Great composition and concept! She looks very alluring, so well composed.

Russian models, can't go wrong with me. Bye that Katey Mossy chick!

On my home monitor the light is acceptable, and contributes to the eerie mood. I like them both. #1 for the angle and inclusion of more of the torso, and #2 for additional distortion from the folds in the clear plastic.

BTW: I just noticed that Karen and Natalia are wearing the same dress, and both do it well.

Yes as 'Junior Stylist' I can't pull 3-4 outfits for 3 girls very easily, so sometimes I reuse if the original idea didn't work out. I actually re-used several outfits for Natalia. She is so stunning. Here is a beauty shot from earlier in the evening with limited touch up (I am lazy, I love image capture but PS is for the birds.

As I have stated before I realize most people here don't care for the medium, but it is extremely satisfying to be responsible (when succesful!) for all the elements in a photograph. Obviously I am NOT the model or do any makeup, but lighting and posing etc...it's not 'luck' to get decent shots. You could press the trigger 1000 times and not get a decent one without proper planning and approach. I am just STARTING to get beyond 'terrible'. It's so much harder than it looks.

Are you using a Leica?

Natalia looked so lovely even through the distortion of the plastic that I'm glad to see her "straight", and your lighting, pose and crop show her off exceptionally well. I agree with Ravi regarding direction of models. However, unless they have a natural talent for posing they also require intelligence to listen, understand and react properly to direction. I found that out the hard way one week many years ago when shooting two different first-time models. I got the results I wanted with the bright one in only one roll of film. The other one took six rolls of film. I still have those B&W prints, but they are many years pre-Leica, so take my word for it.

I usually talk to the model all during the makeup process, very much a portrait approach. Natalia has an older brother by 14 years who is a dentist and is going into 1st yr university. A very nice and intelligent young lady. Still 18, if you know what I mean, but there was an intelligence that projects.

I look for three things in a model (OK OK, no comments please!). Eyes, Fingers and shoulders. Eyes project the intelligence and the fingers and shoulders project the feminine/Romantic vision I am going for. Look at these aspects in Natalia, a winner in all areas.

BTW, if you read some of Sieff's writing you will find almost the same conclusion. I was thrilled to find this out as he, along with Paolo, is my gold standard for Nudes and portrait work.
