peterb Posted September 2, 2006 Share #42 Posted September 2, 2006 Interesting thread. On the one hand one could mate the Halcro Amps and (soon to be released in December) Halcro audio/dvd players coupled with Wilson WATT speakers. Now that's one helluva system. (Runner ups would be gear from Lamm, Krell, Mark Levinson and Classe with an additional player from Meridian thrown in for good auditioning.) You may be poor as a churchmouse, but at least you'll have this incredible sound system. On the other hand, you could also assemble the iPod with its matching Bose Dock. Does it have incredible soundstaging and palpable imaging? No. But, for some reason (perhaps the sonic deficiency of the iPod coupled with the mushiness of the Bose speaker) it makes an incredibly satisfying sound. For hundreds of thousands of dollars less. Trevor Hare Posted September 2, 2006 Share #43 Posted September 2, 2006 I long ago gave up on all the nonsense and magazine reviews and 'cult' stuff. Rega Mira amplifier, Rega Jupiter CD player, KEF 'speakers, Rega EAR headphone amplifier. Grado SR-80 headphones. Simple, great sounds. Worry free. Interconnects and cables are all Rega and QED and none of them resemble hosepipes or cost a fortune. (I live in my home not a lab.) It is all good and reliable and made in England and knows it's place. No spikes, no 10,000 dollar cables suspended by fishing line or stick on foil triangles or other pagan rubbish. I buy normal CDs that are available in shops and on amazon. I have never bought two direct cut LPs of 'test' tracks and epoxied them back to back for rigidity and I do not worship at the feet of any scottish 'gurus' or have to take my equipment to 'Kliniks' to have their Karma topped up. I have never altered the foundations of my home to accomodate a 3 ton record player. I have Pure Evoke DAB radios in other rooms and they sound fine. I have not read a hi-fi magazine for over 14 years and look back on doing so as a waste of time and money. If I needed to replace anything I would head straight for Rega. My mind is very closed to all this. If it is good and reliable and sounds fine and is affordable then why change?
Guest maddin Posted September 2, 2006 Share #44 Posted September 2, 2006 If there is a wish to be granted to me: let me use my dcs digi upsampling and conversion gear to make the jpegs, tiff, raw or whatever format look as good as an ordinary cd sounds (upsampled, of course:D:D) cheers
