Baxter Posted February 7, 2008 Share #21 Posted February 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Cold shoe version of Thumb's up is now in stock at Robert White (they also had the D-coder). Put one on my M8 and it insisted on staying there - transforming the handling. I had been sceptical previously, but the camera now feels so secure. The font has changed to something more restrained too.

Speenth Posted February 7, 2008 Share #22 Posted February 7, 2008 Cold shoe version of Thumb's up is now in stock at Robert White ... I had been sceptical previously, but the camera now feels so secure. I've been using the original Thumbs-Up since it was first released. For proof of its extraordinary effectiveness, use your new Thumbs-Up for a month and then take it off. I guarantee it will be back on again very quickly! This simple device simply transforms the wieldiness of the rather heavy and overly thick M8. Now Tim Isaacs has released the CS version with classic font I guess there'll be a firestorm of protests and cynical remarks about another optional, full-cost upgrade as part of a perpetual anti-obsolescence programme. A cold shoe and a cool, classic font is all you get. Not even a Thumbs-Up free firmware update. What a disgrace!
boilerdoc Posted February 7, 2008 Share #23 Posted February 7, 2008 I am saving for the hot shoe version for both my M8s. Is there anyone in the US carrying the TUs and D Coder at present? Thanks......Steve
chris_livsey Posted March 29, 2008 Share #24 Posted March 29, 2008 Just to bump up this thread for those not in the know or newcomers. I now have a model 1 courtesy of R.White here in the UK and it was money very well spent. The tactile feel of the camera is enhanced and slow speeds feel much more secure and usable. If we are loosing 1/8000 we need this
farnz Posted March 29, 2008 Share #25 Posted March 29, 2008 ...If we are loosing 1/8000 we need this Chris, If you are experiencing camera shake at 1/4000th then you might need to review your technique. Or resist the urge to take photos when travelling at top speed on your motorbike over cobblestones. Pete.

Daniel Ortego Posted March 29, 2008 Share #27 Posted March 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) There are indeed some widgets that work and gadgets that don’t. Tim’s Thumbs Up is clearly a keeper! When I received my Model-3 (longer version) I debated with removing the Leica grip. I played endlessly with it on and off. In the end, I keep both of them on and it is now as normal and ergonomic as can be. I suppose if I wanted the ultimate in secure handling, I would now have Morgan slap on the Griptac covering and call it a day. Regards,
wstotler Posted March 29, 2008 Share #28 Posted March 29, 2008 There are indeed some widgets that work and gadgets that don’t. Tim’s Thumbs Up is clearly a keeper! Ditto. I received mine last week--it really makes a difference in terms of getting a more secure grip. You wouldn't think it would matter that much, but it does. Thanks, Will. thompsonkirk Posted March 30, 2008 Share #29 Posted March 30, 2008 Tim, maybe you could say more about choosing between TU Ver 1 & Ver 3? The website, in the section on choice, seems to say that Ver 1 is most like the 'feel' of an M film advance lever - but then you say pretty much the same thing about the longer Ver 3? Thx for clarification, Kirk

Fotogo Posted April 3, 2008 Share #31 Posted April 3, 2008 Tim, maybe you could say more about choosing between TU Ver 1 & Ver 3? The website, in the section on choice, seems to say that Ver 1 is most like the 'feel' of an M film advance lever - but then you say pretty much the same thing about the longer Ver 3? Thx for clarification, Kirk Kirk, Thanks for the request for some clarification. The fit of the short or long Thumbs Up is most subjective, no doubt. I did not realize I was so vague on the website. I find the short version one to be most like the winding lever on film M's. The Thumbs Up model 3 is 14mm longer. My wife's small hand fits it well. But even having said that, I find I can use either one. Much like the winding levers could be moved to different positions, we all can adjust to different grip shapes. Perhaps the best feature of Thumbs Up, is that it will provide exactly the same hand position each time you hold your camera. I find that repeatability takes away some of the uncertainty when grabbing my camera for a quick shot, or taking all the time I need to compose. The M8 feels the same each time I hold it when using Thumbs Up and I really like that consistency. I will insert a few photos just to show the difference in length of the two models. By the way, just for clarification, the CS designation is for Cold Shoe. There is no connection to the flash contacts. That will be incorporated into an HS version later. Below is the Thumbs Up CS model 1, the short version. You can see the thumb end is aligned with the shutter release. Below: Another look at the model 1, short version Below is the Thumbs Up CS model 3. Here the thumb position is moved further to the right, about 14 mm. I hope these serve to show the difference. As for the website, that will be rephrased and made a bit more clear. Many thanks Kirk.
