bill Posted January 25, 2008 Share #21 Posted January 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well Ben...I dont know what to do, the camera still has the original "L" seal and it would be a shame to spoil that...yet on the other hand I believe that the M3 is for taking pictures with, so...I think I will put a roll through it and see what happens, What do you think? Des, let me give you a couple of pieces of advice: 1. It's a (beautiful) tool. Use it. 2. It's a (beautiful) tool. Use it. Now, 2. may look very much like 1. That's because it's worth repeating. What is more important to you - a paperweight with a waxen L, or a fine piece of engineering that is still doing what it is designed to do, and gives you pleasure every time you use it? Advertisement Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi bill, Take a look here New M3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
roguewave Posted January 26, 2008 Author Share #22 Posted January 26, 2008 Desmond, I try never to tell people what to do. I can only speak for myself. There is certainly a role for collectors. They supply product, for economic gain, to museums. Future generations can place in context, these objects, as the march of time moves endlessly onward. The question my patients have always asked me is, shall I observe or shall I participate. The timing is always their's. Either way, I'm sure you will enjoy this M3's beauty. Using it allows you to enjoy your own.
jc_braconi Posted January 26, 2008 Share #23 Posted January 26, 2008 Luigi, she's really old & maybe part of the first run. 1644071. I wanted a real old one that would give me a more antique look for street portraiture. It is a bit soft & airy so when I take frames of older folks, which I find most interesting, they tend to less harsh. !16416xx here The 35, 2.8Summaron is spectactular !I agree I got my 2 first M3 + 2.8 Summaron, 50 Summicron DR, 2.8 Elmarit 90 and 4 Elmar 135 , second hand but very clean in 1969. ( Yes, I always own them ). Enjoy your M3, for me there are masterpieces!
StS Posted January 26, 2008 Share #24 Posted January 26, 2008 I just read an article about mobile phones being exchanged because one gets bored by the old one. Nice to see there are some crafted goods which are still desirable after half a century. Makes me want to load my M3 again

octo Posted January 28, 2008 Share #26 Posted January 28, 2008 I got an M3 (896705) by pure chance together with 3 lenses in a provincial photographer's shop, had it cleaned and it's the smoothest Leica I have handled by far (IIIg, M2 and modern MP): a silky whisper and the double stroke is not so much an impediment as people will say, though it does bear remembering when shooting a little fast. When I need to shoot close up in a theatre environment, I don't hesitate one second as to which body to carry: M3 first, either M2 or MP as second lens carrier. pierovitch Posted January 30, 2008 Share #28 Posted January 30, 2008 Still using mine with the L seal. Had it with me at all times during the Christmas break loaded with tech pan. I once took it to an Leica event weekend which meant a lot of enthusiasts wanting to handle it.
spectorama Posted January 30, 2008 Share #29 Posted January 30, 2008 This is my first post on the Forum. I just got a M3 myself a couple weeks ago. Actually I decided to sell my DSLR equipment to buy a M3. This my first Leica M system. I am in love with the camera. Here you can find some shots that I did...
