roguewave Posted January 17, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally got my M3, Summaron 35/2.8 & Summilux 50/1.4. Feels like old times, as my first Leica was also a SS M3 I bought in 1973. Like riding a bike. What a feeling with all that chrome, brass & glass in your hands. Here's 2 pics of life in the lap of Leica Lux'ery. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! tobey bilek Posted January 18, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 18, 2008 I am returning to my roots also after I was gifted with several brass Leica cassettes. Beautiful results. Film dries flat which I was never able to achieve before. Furthermore I can`t tell I am transporting film as there is no resistance. I recommend them if the camera supports them. M version is very hard to find and the longer screw ones will not fit.
thomasw_ Posted January 18, 2008 Share #7 Posted January 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lovely. Makes me glad to have one after seeing your post. I think I love to shoot my 50/1.4 Lux on the M3 more than on any other body.
roguewave Posted January 18, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted January 18, 2008 John, Bill, Tobey & Tom, glad to see I'm in good company. If it stops raining and gets well above freezing, I should be able take this lady out to dance. I've been working with my scanner & old negatives to get in shape and have found a local lab t o use, so all systems look like a go. I'm much more excited than predicted. It certainly has brought back a lot of old memories.

luigi bertolotti Posted January 18, 2008 Share #10 Posted January 18, 2008 Compliments for the choice... M3 is always a pleasure to see & handle... and the chrome Summilux adds a lot to look and usability. I cannot read the s/n of the Summilux... can you tell me it ? I have one of the same kind and am curios to see if they are siblings or about...
roguewave Posted January 18, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted January 18, 2008 Luigi, she's really old & maybe part of the first run. 1644071. I wanted a real old one that would give me a more antique look for street portraiture. It is a bit soft & airy so when I take frames of older folks, which I find most interesting, they tend to less harsh. The 35, 2.8Summaron is spectactular ! Tobey, I have a few Leica casettes around, and I am assuming that they are usable only with bulk film and home darkroom processing. Is there another application or approach? BTW - your M3 looks really nice. In my view, still the best viewfinder. Thanks Michael
doubice Posted January 18, 2008 Share #13 Posted January 18, 2008 ......I have a few Leica casettes around, and I am assuming that they are usable only with bulk film and home darkroom processing. Is there another application or approach?..... Thanks Michael Michael, Yes - the Leica casettes can only be used with bulk film, unless you go through the trouble of opening a Kodak or Fuji casette in the dark and trying to fit the loaded spool into a Leica casette. As to processing, home job is best solution. I don't believe that anybody in today's labs with push-button controls would figure out how to open a Leica casette and if they did, you would probably not get parts of it back. I have seen the center spool thrown out, even when the customer specifically asked to get the whole casette back. Best, Jan

DES Posted January 25, 2008 Share #18 Posted January 25, 2008 Hi Ben.......Guess What I too have bought a "NEW" M3.....But I have not had a film through it yet..I have waited years for this ( unlike you I have never had one before) but I am almost frightened to use it in case it does'nt come up to expectation...ie the shutter is faulty etc ..But I will use it soon and hope all is well. DES Posted January 25, 2008 Share #20 Posted January 25, 2008 Desmond, congrats! Beautiful specimen. Are you sending it in to get CLA'd? Will keep an eye out for your M3 images. Well Ben...I dont know what to do, the camera still has the original "L" seal and it would be a shame to spoil that...yet on the other hand I believe that the M3 is for taking pictures with, so...I think I will put a roll through it and see what happens, What do you think?
