robert_parker Posted January 15, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2008 Close to my record of 87 000 in 18months - that was a BMW, too
earleygallery Posted January 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2008 This gives me a real feeling of dread. I had to drive up and down the M4 every week for 2 years - Monday morning and Friday evening, usually like this view. I did a painting/sketch of my impression of the commute, might post it later! roguewave Posted January 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 16, 2008 Andy, you are driving on the wrong side of the road!
andybarton Posted January 16, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted January 16, 2008 Andy, you are driving on the wrong side of the road! Ahh. That'll be the problem! So are over 30,000,000 other people. James - been doing this drive for over 10 years now. 50 miles each way, every day, plus various trips to various schemes elsewhere. I think I will be going through my million miles sometime in the next two or three years. Time to get a new life, I reckon.

cocker Posted January 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2008 Andy, "I feel your pain" as we are supposed to say these days. I'm just about to leave for a 180 mile round trip for a meeting that will last 1hr. It will take me - at least- 21/2 hrs each way I bet. We've lost the plot! Nice picture! Marquinius Posted January 16, 2008 Share #9 Posted January 16, 2008 You should come visit Holland and try to travel from Almere to Amsterdam. It's only 20 miles and mostly you can do it in under 60 minutes. And I'm not talking about going by bike:D Sometimes things really cheer up and once it took me 2 hours 45 minutes. And I never saw anything like an accident, collapsed bridge, streaking girls, whatever. There is now even a commercial on the radio in which some government agency advices you that "in case of an accident, drive to a parking spot and handle things from there". elansprint72 Posted January 16, 2008 Share #10 Posted January 16, 2008 I did 18 miles (29km) on the motorway in an hour and five minutes this morning, that's my house to BARTON bridge, so I know who I'm blaming.
roguewave Posted January 16, 2008 Share #11 Posted January 16, 2008 I thought Europe had the greatest rail system on the planet. What gives?
leif e Posted January 16, 2008 Share #12 Posted January 16, 2008 Good pic - bad feeling. I live approximately 15 kilometeres from my job. Yesterday i managed to spend 1h 15 mins covering that distance. Was I late?? Europe may have a good rail system, we´re not part of that! azzo Posted January 16, 2008 Share #13 Posted January 16, 2008 " You are driving on the wrong side of the road ! " " Ahh. That'll be the problem! So are over 30,000,000 other people." ... ...and so are another 300,000 over here well same numbers with less zeros Lots of mileage and hours on the road ! I pity you Andy. andybarton Posted January 16, 2008 Author Share #14 Posted January 16, 2008 I thought Europe had the greatest rail system on the planet. What gives? I ca get a train to London that gets me there quicker than I can drive to work sometimes. I live 50 miles (80km) from work, and 250 miles (400km) from London. The rail service here is good if you are going where the train wants to take you...

PhotoArchival Posted January 17, 2008 Share #16 Posted January 17, 2008 For a fast car, it's such a shame you are only driving it an average of less than 40mph! Funny how I enjoy this picture, and at the expense of your misery in traffic! The light you have caught is very nice as well as the framing and color. cocker Posted January 17, 2008 Share #18 Posted January 17, 2008 I thought Europe had the greatest rail system on the planet. What gives? Europe has - the UK hasn't - it was privatised - QED. As the the Yale Professor of Trade and Finance Jeffrey Garten this week declared "the era of free markets unleashed by Margaret Thatcher and reinforced by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s is fading away". I'm not holding my breath but there is some hope!
chilihead Posted January 17, 2008 Share #19 Posted January 17, 2008 Looks just like the streets of Calgary, one head in every car, and every head has a cellphone growing in an ear, and doing the posted speed limit is a criminal offence, 80 K means 150 K and who gives a shit about the safety of others - driving, like heavy drinking, reveals who and what you really are...
