PeLu Posted 12 hours ago Share #1 Posted 12 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, could someone help me to identify this camera. It’s a five digit serial number 54806 which indicate a Leica I built 1930. But I understand there is several versions and I have seen many that has been rebuilt. Is this one original or modified? On the back it has a small round ”window”. Let me know if you need more pictures. Welcome, dear visitor! Jul Posted 12 hours ago Share #2 Posted 12 hours ago The two screws in a row seem well placed to hold the hockey stick from the model A.
jankap Posted 10 hours ago Share #3 Posted 10 hours ago At the top of this page you can find the switch "Leica Wiki", then follow the screw mounts. The hockey stick screws are there of the very first Leica A from 1930.

I've just given you a lot of advice about this camera on our LSI Leitz Cafe WhatsApp group. Check that and get back to me if you have any questions. nitroplait Posted 1 hour ago Share #6 Posted 1 hour ago The issue with cross posting questions on the Internet is that the OP (should) have the obligation to (but rarely do) keep all threads updated with information given in other posts elsewhere. Someone here may spend time to craft a sincere answer which may already have been answered elsewhere. At this point this thread is kind of dead as the conversation is obviously happening elsewhere and whatever we may have to say may already have been said - and whatever was said, that we could have learned from, we may never hear.

I'll post here what I posted elsewhere. We're not in the army, though. This is an informal social place where people come for assistance or to exchange opinions. I sent the message above at midnight when I was not about to repeat what I had already said elsewhere. If you were a member of LSI you could join our Leitz Cafe WhatsApp group, of course. I'll do the reposting of info via my phone. William
willeica Posted 1 hour ago Share #8 Posted 1 hour ago My post from the LSI WhatsApp Group referenced above. Just a few things. This was from a period when both I Model As and I Model Cs were being produced. I see the screw where the hockey stick may have been. The standardised version of the I Mod C commenced at 55404, just after this one was produced. Remove the lens and see if there is a ‘0’ at the top of the lens mount. If it is there this would mean the camera was converted to a I Mod C standardised. It looks like this is a I Mod A converted to a I Mod C with the original lens modified to a 7O’Clock mount. If this had been a non standardised camera then the last 3 digits of the camera SN should be engraved on the lens mount to indicate matching. Please feel free to ask questions if any of this is confusing. William

I am not pointing fingers at you, obviously. Nor do I think it is your duty to cross post your answer. I frequently encounter netizens eager to quickly get an answer posting simultaneously in several forums/platforms across the internet. Like you above, I would not prioritise my time to copy my answer to all platforms. If I were to encounter a question on several platforms I would only answer it one place. This results in unfinished fragmented stubs here and there, and I feel that is more the responsibility of the questioner than the respondent. I prefer asking a question at the place I most likely think it can be answered and only taking it elsewhere if I was wrong in my expectation. I am not a moderator here, so just my opinion. As I said, we are not in the army here. I was actually trying to be helpful in my short post last night. I have made thousands of posts here trying to help people with queries about vintage Leicas and people often express their appreciation of that. If I thought that there were 'rules' here about such things, I would disappear and you would never hear from me again. Thankfully, such imaginary rules don't exist.
