Ok, i worked out what nees to be done. This is the only thing that fixes the profiles hanging issue, fotos app connection.

  1. Update camera
  2. Factory reset after updating and start setting it up again with your settings. The previous settings from backups do not work properly and cause these oddities.
  3. Get a coffee or scotch and begin setting up camera from new.

Glad it worked for you.  In my case, it did not work.

Any way of downgrading to ver 3.x?  It would be a great upgrade if I could. ;)

The Favorites menu was much more user-friendly than the tiny icons, especially critical when wearing gloves. The new firmware has significantly improved continuous autofocus and tracking, and the black bar at the bottom of the screen has finally been removed, but the other changes are questionable: two steps forward, one step back.

not according to the Leica store here in Los Angeles, said it can’t be done. I’m usually very cautious about upgrading (computers, airplane avionics, etc.) but I was chasing better AF and lost my head.

I am having all sorts of issues, at the moment.  Switching profiles causes either the circle from hell, or locking up the camera.  Can't get spot focusing setting to work.  For a while the level option was not working.  Did a hard reset, which was recommended by Leica Corp, but it does not appear to have fixed anything.  Hopefully, they will come up with a fix soon.  Oy...

I'm sorry to hear that and I hope the support will help you. My profile switching only froze the first time, but then it worked fine. Everything else works flawlessly so far (except for the inability to rotate portraits). My complaints are mostly ideological: a street camera should be fast and convenient, and I don't have the time or desire to mess around with pressing 5-6 buttons and switching modes every time the scene changes. If I liked using menus and submenus, I'd shoot with an iPhone.

Hey Leica, if you read this....I only use focus peaking in manual focus, i do not want focus peaking on when I am in autofocus as i am relying on your focus algorithm, plus i want to see a clean scene and not full of peaking. How do I only have it set to manual focus only?

I think this will be fixed in the next firmware update, but for now you can use 2 different screen settings and switch between them with the center button.

Smogg,

Thanks for the reply. I never update firmware ever on equipment until a few days after the fact. Yesterday got me and got me hard. If and when they release a corrected firmware, it shouldnt be in another few months, they really need to be on top of this. Cheers and thanks for the reply.

Try exporting your profiles to the SD card, turn off the camera and then turn it on again, and import the profiles from the card.

LOL, THE CIRCLE FROM HELL................................so true. I am getting Apple Beachball of death and windows blue screen of death vibes now with this firmware update. Not happy Leica that you released something that is obviously not tested..............or is it Panasonic firmware ;)

I confirm that when even just moving to the default profiel, not even accepting it, the q3 28 hangs with a rotating circle. Saving profiles is absolutley pointless as the profiles from 3.1.1 do not wotk with 4.0.0

Aside from the user interface change, the update was pure garbage in my opinion. It was not warranted at all. Regret putting it in. If you are still in 3.1.1 stay there, you wont be getting anything better. Believe me or not, you will see if you update.......................and wish you didnt.

I updated and I don't see the freezing issue with switching the profiles. Your anecdote sample doesn't speak for me.

again, I don't get what you are saying. Where did you see focus peaking on AF mode? I don't see that at all, and most of the time I only use AFs and/or AFc with Q camera.

Elliot, I found peaking focus setting and enabled it. One would assume it would only be present in manual focus scenarios but the loopsy programmer who wrote the code thought maybe a tool (used for manual focus) would be ideal in an autofocus scenario. I think not.

Do you have focus peaking enabled? If so, you'll see it regardless of the focus mode (AF or MF).

What I have noticed with focus peaking, is that when turned on, you can keep the shutter button pressed half way, and the initial subject remains focused as I re-align the camera.  Not sure if it also works that way with focus peaking turned off.  I do find the focus peaking a bit annoying.

Maybe I am being a whinging girl here but the common thing i notice that when sony release a new upgrade they also release on the day a new instruction manual to reflect the changes. Half these quesitons we all have could be answered if LEICA SUPPLIED AN UPDATED $#@% MANUAL!
