M EV1 and content credentials create XMP files

Recommended Posts

Hi , for those who haven't noticed the Leica Content Credentials on the EV1 seem to create XMP sidecar files (I haven't seen one of those since the old days of the Canon D10 ??)

I turned the content credentials OFF and back to normal , with no XMP's.

The XMP's also seemed to slow the processing down. Anyway for what it's worth.

Lightroom does this automatically during import, not only with the M EV1, but with all Leicas with Content Credentials, if they are activated. I reported this to Leica because it bothers me to have two files for one image, but I haven't heard anything back yet. However, it is not actually a Leica problem, but rather an Adobe problem.

@Leslie22 Go to "Catalog Settings" in Lightroom and uncheck "Automatically write changes into XMP"

@elmars Not with me. Please check your catalog settings.

Just to be clear , after more shooting this morning , Lightroom Classic 15.0.1 , Automatic write XMP check box OFF.

Content Credentials OFF. Back to my normal with NO XMP sidecars. The only camera to cause this "problem" for me has been the EV1 with its content credentials. I know that many people would be quite happy to have the sidecar files , but it's not how I like to work, so all is now well with the world. (and I'm enjoying the EV1)

I have Content Credentials ON, Automatic write XMP OFF, and no XMP sidecars are being generated. I guess the problem was either an older LrC version or a catalog setting, but not M-EV1 or Content Credentials.

If you turn on Content Credentials now, are you still seeing XMP sidecars with M-EV1 files?

Just for you I did another test with Credentials turned on , the XMP files came back. Lightroom Classic latest version.

Thank you for checking. That is very strange, as it does not happen for me and others. I have checked that Content Credentials are in the raw file.

Note that XMP will be generated if you apply "Save Metadata to File" (Command-S). That is independent of Content Credentials.

Does it still occur for you with the latest versions? It does not happen for me.

I may not have mentioned earlier that I am using Mac Studio. To be frank the mystery has been cleared up after testing for me. Leave Content credentials turned OFF , and no more side cars. I am a little disappointed  as I thought I'd leave them on although I have no critical need for them.

I am also using Mac Studio. Can you tell me the version of Lightroom Classic that you are using?

Thank you, my settings were incorrect. Unfortunately, I cannot verify the effects as I do not currently have a camera with content credentials.

However, wasn't it different in Lightroom before? I have always saved my metadata in the file, which is why I haven't been in these preferences for a long time. Now there is a distinction between development settings and other metadata. Has it always been this way?

Me too. I am baffled. I do not get XMP files even at export to JPG (using the Attach to Files option).

I tried with presets and metadata applied at import, but nothing forces the creation of XMP files at import. You are seeing the XMP files instantly after import, right?

Edit: Also camera firmware 2.6.0.
