Overgaard Posted 21 hours ago Share #21 Posted 21 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't mind it is 50,000 USD if it is worth the price. But I feel this set should be 22,000 like the 70th Anniversary set, or maybe a bit extra for the box and the one additional lens. This jerking up prices based one expected future collector value is wrong. The 35mm black paint for 10K was wrong. Let the uses and collectors who see the potential in for example a Leica M10-R black paint buy it for the price it is calculated at as a product, and if and when the market escalate the price, it will be an even more valuable tool to own and use (like the 50mm APO LHSA that went from 9,600 to 40,000). The Hermes M9 set is another example of a fair limited edition, the M9 with three lenses and a Hermes camera bag sold for about 30,000 when released. Was a fair price then, and happened to hit the spot and is above 100,000 now. In their effort to own the narrative, Leica shoot themselves in the foot. I am not buying limited editions market up. Not even Ferrari, Rolex, Montblanc, Porsche, etc does that. If you buy a Ferrari cash, you can sell it for more in a few months. But it was made for driving, so most people buy it to drive it and get to enjoy that the price goes up. Montblanc make the super limited editions, and they are sold at list price, based on their special design, often with diamonds or similar, not at a marked-up value for a different CNC cut and different color of paint. I do miss LSI/LHSA editions that are slightly more expensive, support the idea of a society of fans, and surprisingly often rise in value after they are sold out. (Not to forget the German, UK and other societies).
