DadDadDaddyo Posted 7 hours ago Share #1  Posted 7 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) The action's all happening at the EV forum. So I'll post this: Over here, I've been experimenting, tentatively, carefully, with (gasp!) Aperture Priority exposure automation. Yeah, I know, but looking at several bouts of intense street work over the past couple years, I gotta say, I was losing some shots to exposure errors, more frequently than compared to focusing errors. And that's not what I would have guessed. So I've been playing with setting the aperture I want for the depth of field I seek, and then letting the little golem in the camera do it's thing. Radical, eh? The jury's still out, but I'm inclined, for some upcoming stuff, to let it have its way and fix it in post.... Such a daredevil, eh? Who says you can't teach an old guy something new?

JNK100 Posted 6 hours ago Share #2 Â Posted 6 hours ago I have used solely aperture priority since about about 1982. I mainly photograph status subjects and could never see a reason to use manual or shutter speed priority. The M11 is pretty good at exposure and there is always exposure compensation of course. gbealnz Posted 6 hours ago Share #3 Â Posted 6 hours ago Similar to JNK100, I use "A" a fair bit of the time. Occasionally I will use M, but A works for me.
lct Posted 6 hours ago Share #4 Â Posted 6 hours ago Discovering AE in 2025 really? You must be a youngster then The M7 was from 2002 IIRC and the R3 from 1976 or something. This other youngster got his Canon AE1 in the eighties and my brand new M4-2 looked antediluvian next to it.
DadDadDaddyo Posted 5 hours ago Author Share #5  Posted 5 hours ago Yeah thanks, all. I've got to say it seems to be working pretty well. Amazing stuff! See, I've been a spot meter guy simply forever and ever. I've got a Gossen SpotMaster that's kind of an old friend; we've been through a lot together. I've always kind of figured that if I'm already thinking about it enough to be selecting modes, let alone dialing in compensation, I may as well just do the metering myself.  The metering modes on the M really are effective in how they can change the character of the instrument, influencing the process, and shaping the path to the result. I never doubted the capabilities of the tech; I was just happy thinking about it, working it out. It was part of the fun. Anyway, thanks for lending a tolerant ear...
