Really Nice Images (RNI) playing catch-up on the M EV1 for film profiles

For users of film profiles from RNI, I note that RNI All Films 5 - Pro works with the M EV1 in ACR, whilst RNI All Films 4 - Pro is still waiting for an update in order to work with DNG files from the M EV1 in ACR. RNI All Films 4 - Pro works with all other M11 variants, so I emailed their tech support, and they confirmed they will be issuing an update 'soon'.

Mastin Labs presets all work with the M EV1 in their latest versions in ACR.

Anyone using any other good film emulations in post with their M EV1?

Good to know, thanks for sharing that. I’m using All Films 5 with my M10/10-R/Q cameras and it’s been great—those profile-based looks really suit Leica files. Nice to hear it already works with the M EV1.

I tried every other product out there that claims to emulate film but found RNI more natural and less “preset-y” so far, if that makes sense. Not sure if you still need All Films 4 after upgrading to v5 though.

I have since discovered that even though the RNI All Films Pro 4 profiles are not officially supported for the M EV1, you can do a work around and get them working in ACR.

In the film profile section of ACR, click on the three dots, top right of the Profiles window. This shows you a menu of options, one of which is to SHOW PARTIALLY COMPATIBLE PRESETS

When you select this option, all of the presets magically re-appear, in a slightly lighter grey tone, and appear to work as before - result!

You can spend a lifetime in Photoshop, and still learn something new every day!

I have the RNI 5. Which emulations do you prefer in RNI 4 vs RNI 5?

I actually prefer 4 as you have more options than 5 - although 5 was pitched as an upgrade at the time, RNI later admitted that they had misled buyers and in fact 5 was a completely new stand-alone product, with fewer film profiles, using a different approach. So I ended up buying and using both!
