Leica R6 Data Back Battery ?

Hello,

I'm new to my Leica R6 and new to this forum.

My used Leica R6 came with a Data Back and I'm having difficulty knowing which battery to purchase to get it active.  Not that I'd ever use this feature but I'd like to get it working.

Does anyone know which battery this optional device requires?

Welcome to the forum, David.  I never had an R6 (always admired them from afar).  Anyway, I would be surprised if the data back had its own battery.  Wouldn't it be powered by the same battery that operated the meter?  Someone will know.  Meanwhile, here is a link to a .pdf of the R6 manual.  Maybe that will help.

It takes four LR44 batteries...quite common.

Four batteries are way to tall, will not allow cover to close.

Odd...if you do a websearch (as I did) at least 1/2 dozen results come up all saying LR44/SR44/MS76 batteries are what  you need.   Unfortunately when I search for a manual, nothing comes up.

Another internet AI search suggests a pair of silver SR44 batteries, which looks plausible looking at your pictures. It claims that these also take over the batteries normally in the camera if the databack is attached, though I'm not sure I believe that.

If nobody mentions 2 x 1/3n, it is most likely 2x LR44.

If the 4 x LR44/SR44 was correct (as distinct from 2) then 2 1/3N would also do. Maybe my search result of a pair of SR44 meant a pair in each of the two compartments. It should be easy to decide based on the depth of the compartments.

Possibly the reference to 4xSR44 included the batteries needed for the camera and data back, if each takes 2xSR44

Looked it up Two silver batteries 1.5V , albeit for an older type
