WvE Posted yesterday at 09:24 AM Share #3 Â Posted yesterday at 09:24 AM Looks cool, but I can't live with the poor battery performance of the SL's. I'll wait to see what the SL4 will bring.
summicron75 Posted yesterday at 09:27 AM Share #4  Posted yesterday at 09:27 AM Going to buy this. I just found a BNIB SL 35/2 APO Summicron with a 45% discount (in Europe where I live). I feel the two together will be incredible, especially during the rainy season.

I'll wait to see what the SL4 will bring. I've had my SL3-S for a few weeks, but have used it quite a bit. I find the BP-SCL6 gives at least as much battery life in the SL3-S as the BPSCL4 did in the SL2-S. Perhaps more, but that may be because my BP-SCL4 batteries were old. I had 3 spare BP-SCL4 batteries left over from my SL2-S, but have replaced them with the higher capacity versions (bought used from MPB).

Multiple batteries is a simple solution to the problem, but with such an expensive camera you shouldn't have to carry 3-5 separate batteries on you (these don't come cheap either). PhotoCruiser Posted yesterday at 12:43 PM Share #7  Posted yesterday at 12:43 PM (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I never liked the green Leicas and i love the old-school look of my silver SL2 or the all black of my Q2. I don't have complaints about battery life on my SL2, nor on my Q2, but i don't take hundred of photos. Currently i have 2 SCL-4 from my Q2 and a new SCL-6 i bought as spare and that is much more that i usually use, for extended use out in the field i have the NightCore USB charger for them and could recharge the batteries from whatever USB source. The new BP-SCL6 i bought last longer than the slightly used BP-SCL4 i got with the SL2, but same here, one was new and the others are used. Longer battery life would require a bigger battery and/or substantial changes in either soft- or hardware to lower energy consumption. Maybe some day small batteries get new chemistry what could make them last longer but it seems that we are still far from that. I'll wait to see what the SL4 will bring. I’m not sure how this relates to a new Reporter edition.  That said my SL3-S battery life looks the same as my previous SL2-S battery life. I use it the same way and carry the same number of batteries.

I don't carry 3-5 batteries. I have the batteries, but don't carry all of them. Since getting the SL3 I have never made more than one battery change, and I've usually started from a part depleted battery (shooting sessions of 400-500 shots at a time). You could ask why I have so many batteries, but that's another story.
hoolyproductions Posted 22 hours ago Share #10  Posted 22 hours ago On the battery life, I also get really good performance. I shot an Irish folk band last weekend and took over 700 shots during 3 hours and still had around 30% charge left. I do set the LCD to EVF-extended and do not either playback my shots on the LCD except to occasionally check my exposure setting are good, so maybe this is the reason I get such longevity.

And the one recent occasion I remember changing batteries in mid-session was when I was also recording video alongside stills. I also agree this is nothing to do with the Reporter Edited 21 hours ago by LocalHero1953
Markey Posted 16 hours ago Share #12  Posted 16 hours ago (edited) I have two of the newer batteries and three of the older type . Covers my needs . Covers me for my SL2s and Q3 43. Don`t carry then all at the same time .... maybe two ,sometimes three. Edited 16 hours ago by Markey
colonel Posted 5 hours ago Share #13 Â Posted 5 hours ago a real tangent for this thread. battery performance is weight vs length. I think the SL3 is fine. the reporter is a great edition. I like the colours. will be keeping my black sl3 for now !!!
WvE Posted 4 hours ago Share #14  Posted 4 hours ago The only reason I commented is that I really love the look of the Reporter, but added that I won't be buying it because of, among other things, the battery performance.
