fotografr Posted August 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was out walking around with another photographer a while back and he was asking me about the 50mm asph I had on my M7. I was trying to explain the amazing texture the lens created in the OOF areas but couldn't adequately describe it. Finally, I told him I'd take this shot with the lens wide open and show him the results. As soon as he saw this, he said, "I want one."

stuny Posted August 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2006 Brent - A terrific sales example. I hope he has Leica.
fotografr Posted August 29, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks, Stuart. He has the M6 and a 35 cron. It's definitely time for him to start adding to the collection.

vic vic Posted August 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 29, 2006 very good image in itself, and ya - i agree - a great marketing :-)))) u know im thinking to mysewlf from time to time about the buying noctilux for its character, but i also love very much the asph qualities and so get used to it - this is nice example:-))
fotografr Posted August 29, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted August 29, 2006 Victor--Both the noctilux and the 50 asph are very unique and wonderful lenses in their own ways. I have both lenses and have no feeling of redundancy at all because even though they are the same focal length they have very different characteristics and fingerprints. kidigital Posted August 29, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Brent ... I think. As I build my small collection of M lenses in anticipation of the M8 introduction, your example will push me even further over the edge to Leica-induced bankruptcy. Maybe I do need the 50/1.4 and the Noctilux. Kurt
christoph_d Posted August 29, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 29, 2006 Brent, Your picture illustrates the point for the 1.4/50A very well. However, may I add the 2.8/50 to your list, which produces wonderfully almost fragile pics, and the "old", pre- asph 1.4/50, with it's soft rendering of the background, perfect for portraiture. Then perhaps the 2/50 which is also superbly sharp and has a nice soft bokeh (and superb handling)... I truly believe that in the current lineup of Leica 50 lenses all are special and nice to use. And then there are a few nice ones from the past... Regards, C.

fotografr Posted August 29, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks very much for the comments and insights. Christoph--I totally agree with you. I've never used a Leica lens I didn't like for one reason or another. Uwe--Very nice of you to say that. Thank you.
leicamann Posted August 30, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 30, 2006 Brent, hard to describe? Yeah ,but I think you posted a fine example here. Of course I still love the "painterly" rendering the Nocti gives ..this lens also clealy has its merits as well..corner to corner:) Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann

harmsr Posted September 2, 2006 Share #14 Posted September 2, 2006 Brent, Great photo. I love the composition and the 50 Lux ASPH. That lens does wonderful things. I can't quite agree relative to liking the Nocti. I just never have enjoyed how it renders the OOF areas, but that is just me. You do some really amazing work. Best, Ray
