Solving the M11 mystery: will the M EV1 ever freeze, have a magenta tint, or exhibit SSD problems?

Asking the question theoretically.  Given the sensor is the same, if the EV1 does not have a magenta tint, then it's a software problem on M11 that could be resolved.

Same thing with freezes.

I'm also curious on the 64GB SSD.  That could be a stepping stone to a P with 256GB or a sign that the 256GB SSD had problems (like my failed one in M11-D that caused the whole M11 line to be banished from the house and for good).

Just noticed we set up a corner for the new kid to get acclimated -- feel free to move it to the EV1 forum or keep here as a way to further diagnose M11 issues from the new chassis.

The EV1 and now M11 following the latest firmware update ,can be 'tuned' to taste including removing any perceived tint.

With enough determination, diligence,  practice, effort, and patience, I should think it would be possible to make just about any digital camera freeze.

Then, all who are watching and waiting can say, "Aha!!"

I don't really understand the point of this topic to be honest. You seemed pretty vocal about having gotten rid of your M11s because of your experiences, I can't imagine you are thinking about coming back to the system?

  • Freezing has become very rare over time, can't remember last time it was discussed as a big issue. But I don't think anyone can claim any piece of tech is 100% freeze proof either, except maybe a freezer.
  • The magenta bias (that some people don't see or mind) can now be tweaked since latest firmware, as widely discussed already
  • SSD problems; I know you experienced those and that was definitely bad and should not have happened, but it's also not been a widespread issue. I don't recall seeing anyone else having it, but might be mistaken? Every SSD in the world does have a limited lifespan theoretically, I believe 10 years is often quoted for normal usage but also depends on factors like quality, usage, etc.

Additionally the firmware update enables deep formatting of the internal memory.

That's good to know!  I might get back with an M11-D and in general it's good to see how the reliability of the platform is addessed.
