I am almost 73 and have been carrying some version of the M Leica since graduating from college in 1975.  My favorite Leica is an M2 with a 35 mm lens.  Leica just got something right with the M2.  However, I am starting to see a deterioration of my physical abilities as I age.  It is harder to focus or hold the camera steady or ???  I am starting to think a modern digital with auto focus and stabilization would make a great substitute for a M body.

I purchased a new MP about 15 months ago and a new Q3 about 10 months ago.  Perhaps it is time to sell the MP and just carry the Q3 or even the Nikon Zf.  Comments?

There are some great cameras that you can use your M lenses on, like the ZF, and that give you IBIS and a focus screen you can magnify or use focus peaking with. Additionally they can all use their native AF lenses. So it’s the best of both worlds, and at far less cost than the new EVF M, with which you are still stuck with MF lenses. I enjoy my Nikon Z7 with my M lenses, the Z8 is better, but the ZF is probably the best compact option. And even the Nikon kit lenses are exceptional so I don’t see it as a trade off.

M2 - 35mm lens brilliant combination , I’m 80+ and I sympathise with you but my age does not stop me at the moment enjoying that kind of vintage tech and if I do say so myself producing high quality analogue mono prints. Having said that I know exactly what your thinking with modern gadgets they make life too easy, at least with quality vintage kit you are not spending your state pension on cameras that probably will always be upgraded and may or may not go the distance of the M2. So if you want the Digital path where the camera does all the skills for you it’s your choice. How much cash did you have in mind for the M2 / 35mm lens ?

Most of the worlds greatest photographs have been made just by knowing what to point the camera at. And it would be rare for any well known photographer to brag about their technical skills because these are like reading and writing, and if you don't like reading or don't like writing it doesn't mean you can't do them.

If you work within a restricted range of focal lengths, then a Q3 or Q3 43 makes sense as a replacement for a digital M. The switch between manual and auto focus/exposure controls is quick and intuitive, and it includes stabilisation. The image quality is up there with the best M lenses. If you're content with resolutions down to 18Mp (just like the M9) then you have a good range of equivalent focal lengths from either Q.

AFAIC the main matter for consideration in your question is: are you content with that limitation in equivalent focal length.
