For those who wish to hide the red dot.

From their web page:

"MATERIALS

Outdoor rated premium vinyl from USA with permanent adhesive." 😮

Guess one needs to be sure what gets stuck on one's camera!

(I suspect the stickers actually do come off as they also mention that "Each kit includes multiple covers in both styles, so you can easily swap them depending on your shooting environment or mood").

You could buy a hassleblad to get rid of this problem. My current main user is a M11 safari, so no red dot but LOTS of comments from folk on the unusual colour (positive) so you can never win!! Personally I like the red dot on my red dot models ….

I find it to be strange that they sell 26 stickers that supposedly are "stealthy", when only 13 of them really are.

never understood the point, as most people on the street are always aware of cameras no matter what size the lens is, and ones that plan to snatch-n-steal a camera will do it anyway.

Hmmm.

Needs to be something more distinctive and appropriate-to-task than vinyl.

I suggest a disk made of the platinum-iridium alloy used for the International Prototype Kilogram. The dimensional and gravitational stability of this material lends itself to the stringent requirements for such an important component.

You don't own a Rolls Royce car i guess. You can hide the Spirit of Extasy on recent models, so that people can believe that the car is a vulgar Skoda :D

I read where the red dot makes you a target but so far in all my travel I only came across 1 guy who said “ I see you have a Leica”

it’s much easier to fence a ford than a Ferrari so I wonder sometimes how much is just paranoia !

What do all of you do when you see other photographers? I am sure you all peek and try to see what brand and model it is.

On the other hand: I wouldn't go as far as to assume that thieves just see "a camera" and are note able to tell brands apart, surely not, but I don't think they draw a line at Fujifilm or OM Systems or whatever. Fencing any camera means profit.

Actual risk and perceived risk can differ quite a lot, but you have no idea what the actual risk is.

I hated the garish red dot, covered it with a piece of masking tape which I sized and cut out with a round punch I use in leatherwork.

The first time i saw that ridiculous logo on my new M4-2 i couldn't help but peel it off in the 80s. It was simply stuck to the vulcanite and left no trace since then. This is more difficult to do now.

I think I prefer Skodas! I rented one of their estate 4x4 last year and it was great!

No such problem with my Dacia either. A Leica in a Dacia shot with a Summilux—how snobbish! :D

Same here, and it was someone I was already conversing with.

On the other hand, I covered Leica logos when I did weddings, because there's always someone who wants to interrupt you to "talk cameras" while you are busy. It's OK to talk if I am not obviously busy, of course.

That's what I used to believe, too ... but no, it's not.

Exactly. After I covered my red dot with a piece of tape, there were significantly less distractions of this kind. Granted—in most situations it won't make any difference. But in some, it will.

That said, I wonder if those 'Leica stealth kits' from Field Made Co aren't illegal. Because in order to make money from another company's legal trade marks, you'd have to acquire a license ...

Does that work on a Porsche GT3 as well??
