Knarf Posted October 15 Share #1 Posted October 15 Advertisement (gone after registration) Off to Cyprus for a week, trying to decide which camera to take, only want to take one. Q343 or SL2S with 28-70mm lens. Thoughts appreciated, I mostly shoot landscape but often find myself photographing anything that looks interesting? Olaf_ZG Posted October 15 Share #2 Posted October 15 For me, a zoom is for events, which a holiday isn’t. So for me, the Q.
Dazzajl Posted October 15 Share #3 Posted October 15 The Q is the tool for the job surely? It’s a little smaller, more discrete, more elegant and might mean you overshoot less
Knarf Posted October 16 Author Share #4 Posted October 16 Looking back, last year in Cyprus I took a Q2 so this year it will be. the Q343😃

Aram Langhans Posted October 17 Share #6 Posted October 17 For me, if those are the only two choices, I would opt for the SL2S + zoom. The Q3-43 would be too restrictive. I own the Q3 - 28 and if that was one of the options, I would take it. I like the wider view and with 60mp could crop a lot when needed. I guess it all depends on your view of the world. If 43mm is not too restrictive, then go for it and enjoy the weight/size benefit over a SL.
ravinj Posted October 18 Share #7 Posted October 18 Advertisement (gone after registration) Go with the Q3 43. I just wrapped up a trip to Athens and a few islands with just the Q3 28. Q3 43 would have served equally well. It was toss of a coin. My goal was minimal, lightweight gear with no compromise on quality. It was a leap of faith to just take one camera with a fixed lens but it worked out much better than I expected - light, fast, fun and no one noticed the gear. I never had to think whether to carry it or not and it fit easily in my waistpack.
AdrianTurner Posted October 19 Share #8 Posted October 19 I'm recently back from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia and took only the Q3 28mm. Never felt ill-equipped for the buildings and landscapes.

Which one do you own and could you provide a photo? Thanks.

I have tried a few including the PD Everyday Sling 3L (2nd choice) and keep coming back to ONA Bond Street canvas shoulder bag worn sling style. In fact, I now own two, one in black and the original in camo. It holds just enough and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It also fits in a backpack for travel and hiking. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/326751-q2-casebag-thread-pics-required/?do=findComment&comment=4317229 Welcome, dear visitor! I use Mystery Ranch: Hip Monkey Pack | MYSTERY RANCH Backpacks https://share.google/k8AmbroOFYp30Qdhj The pack does get bulky with the Q3 in it, but I find it to be very high quality construction and good for walking around in a city. Most of the time, Q3 is out in hand for shooting anyway so not a big deal to me. It also has an inner zipped pocket that I use to keep passport and money. Can also sling it over the shoulder if needed.
Knarf Posted November 5 Author Share #12 Posted November 5 In the end I took the Q343. Now have the same decision to make as I am off to Sri Lanka soon 🤔
PhotoCruiser Posted November 5 Share #13 Posted November 5 (edited) I would take only my Q2 for any trip i don't need ultra wide or macro and that would be mostly a city trip. For Sri Lanka i would have to decide to take the Q2 or haul the SL2 + 105mm macro, 28mm and 14mm, maybe skipping the 28mm even if it's a great lens. It depends also how one travels, backpacking has different problems than having a car or doing a organized (Photo) trip, but the Q series is certainly the best solution for quality, weatherproofing and size and the 28mm does reasonable wide photos. Fortunately i was aware of those decisions when i added the SL2 to my Q2 so i can't complain now but i am sure when i am ther i would miss the gear i left home. Andr Posted November 5 Share #14 Posted November 5 I traveled to Sri Lanka last year and brought along my Sony A7R V, but only with a 24mm and a 40mm lens. I did that on purpose, to help me decide which Leica Q to get. In the end, I found myself reaching for the 40mm most of the time. So i bought the Q343.

The only time I will take additional gear is 1)for wildlife photography, in which case my Panasonic G9 with Pana-Leica 50-200 + 2x teleconv is good enough (for me, I don't make money with photography). 2) Once in a lifetime trip where I will take a backup (MFT with a couple of stellar Olympus lenses). I use the Pilot 7L, but there are much smaller version (2,5L and 3,5L), high quality and built specifically with Leica in mind... https://www.wotancraft.tw/en/creations/camera-sling-bag Den

I am specifically looking for one that fits around the waist. Closest is a Peak Design Sling but for the moment the Wotancraft will do.
