However, this was vastly exceeded by the final cost reaching over $2.8 billion. In the 1960/70-ies, mind you. Today, it would have been $23.5 billion... Each of the British and French governments funded $1.44 billion. These costs were mostly written off and never recovered. Only twenty of the estimated 350 aircraft were ever built. I had seen this aircraft before, I happened to be transiting at Heathrow when it took off for one of its final commercial flights in October 2003.
