I have two batteries and expect both to last for days with a lot of use.  Occasionally one will drop strangely fast but that is after I have connected to Fotos for remote control and forgot to turn off fotos, but it's still not as bad as you describe.  The only other times are as described here, when I have carried "on" and in a bag or within a jacket where it's much more likely that the camera is awakened by a half shutter press.  This just happened on a 1.5 mile hike in a backpack where I forgot to turn it completely off while in the bag.  I started that hike at 50% or so and at end it was in the red.  Along the way I am sure it got a ton of waking half presses.

screen brightness is power hungry on almost all cameras

Well okay, apart from the aquaducts, what have the Romans ever done for us?  We can speculate forever.  I’m very mindful that different menu choices make a difference to battery life, whether it be Leica, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, GoPro or otherwise.  However, the poster did not describe any walkabout behaviour I don’t commonly follow myself.  His described battery performance vs photo review habits do not explain the poor battery life.  Unless perhaps he was walking around in close to zero celsius conditions and not keeping his spare batteries warm by carrying close to body (whether or not reviewing extensively on _full_ brightness) he should reasonably be expecting much better.  On balance, I still suggest a new battery is a good plan.  If his phone had this performance, I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise.  Leica is no different.

As a general comment, the last camera I owned that possessed what I would consider good battery life (as opposed to adequate or poor) was the Nikon D3s.

2500 shots per charge from a battery not that much physically larger than an M11.

Reporting back; I disabled Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as Live View, and shot ~400 photos. I only used the viewfinder to frame, focus and shoot, the back screen was switched off the whole time; no chimping either.

The battery dropped from 95% to 90%.
