Muscardino Posted October 6 Share #1 Posted October 6 Advertisement (gone after registration) A couple of months ago, while photographing in the Pyrenees for a book about the mountains of the Basque Country, I had a terrible accident with my Leica S 007. It slipped off the tripod and fell onto the tarmac. This was the result: And this was the technical service's diagnosis: Necessary tasks to be carried out Camera service S: Disassembly Repair of main body Adjustment of viewfinder screen support Adjustment of AF mirror Repair of mirror cover Repair of shielding Adjustment of sensor position Repair of sensor position Repair of spirit level Repair of Wi-Fi module Image quality check and adjustment Repair of front cover Repair top plate Repair bottom plate Repair printed circuit board Repair card slot flap Repair GPS module Clean viewfinder Repair eyepiece Clean eyepiece Repair mirror stops Repair shutter mechanism Adjust AF module Repair photometer Firmware update Repair μsd Clean focus screen Adjust electronic/mechanical assemblies Clean sensor Electronic autofocus adjustment Cleaning Final inspection I feared it would be beyond repair, but in Wetzlar, for a price that was almost higher than what I paid for it, they restored it to working order. I have been able to enjoy it again. Fortunately, the lens that was mounted on it, the 180 mm, only suffered a broken lens hood. I am waiting to get a new one. I have already resumed taking photographs for my new book. It is evident that there are setbacks in life. Welcome, dear visitor! Tirpitz666 Posted October 7 Share #4 Posted October 7 Wow sorry for your accident, I feel for you.. Out of curisity, how much did it cost? Was it still materially less than just buy an used one for around 2700-2800 bucks/euros that they can be found nowadays?
ben446 Posted October 7 Share #5 Posted October 7 (edited) My camera slip / tripod adventure was with a non S but traumatic nonetheless. I was using the quick release clamp as pictured. I could not see that the plate was not fully seated as the moving part of the clamp was under / in front of the camera. I even tested that the camera was secure before stepping away from it. Love the head and definitely user error. I now use the quick release clamp with the knob facing me so I have a better view of the closure. I prefer the knob to a lever but that's just personal preference. Welcome, dear visitor!
