I have had my M8 for many years and am very happy with the quality and character of my photos. My only complaint is the viewfinder with a 50mm lens. I greatly prefer looking through

my M4. Would increasing the magnification help?

Thanks

It has taken me a while to get used to the M8 viewfinder. I don't use 50s with it very much, my 1957 M3 has an M4 viewfinder and yes there is a difference, but I adjust to the camera I am using. If it really bothers you a magnifiying lens would probably help, at the expense of the wider frames. I use a 25mm Canon and a 35 Leica or Zeiss most of the time. To be really wierd I just bought a 75 to use on the M8, that really takes getting used to.

Actually using the magnifier for enlarging framelines is about the only use I would consider.  Be prepared for a slight contrast loss. 35 mm framelines should still be visible with some effort if you use the 1.25. If you use a correction diopter the value may change.

I used a Leica viewfinder magnifier for a few years when I used my 90/2 APO Summicron asph and it helped with accurately focussing.  But I found that with shorter lenses than 90 where nailing focus with the VF was less of a problem I wouldn't use the magnifier because it reduced VF contrast and actually made it slightly harder to focus.

Pete.

I have a viewfinder magnifier for the M8 body that I use for lenses 50mm and longer, and have always found it useful.  Just be careful if you wear glasses that it can scratch them with repeated use, so when I got a new pair, I cut out a small circle of chamois leather with a hole punched in the centre and glued it on to protect them.
