SL3 or SL2 for use with S lenses

Hello,

I would like to upgrade my original SL and buy either an SL2 or SL3 to use with my S lenses and my two L mount lenses. Is there any difference between the two newer SLs related to the autofocus with the S lenses? Anything else to consider?

As I see the post is about the problem with the S lenses on the SL3-s. Thank you for the info. Does it mean the SL2 and SL2-s are less problematic with the S lenses?

No problems on my side with SL2, SL2-S, SL3, SL3-S and S-lenses - almost always shooting the S-lenses with manual focus and focus confirmation on SL.

Re SL2 vs SL3: SL2 has Multi-Shot High-Res Mode (187 mp, I think); the SL3 does not have this feature (but 60 mp is still more than most of us need).

Thank you very much for your detailed and informative response. I will look for a clean SL2 locally, it makes more sense to skip a generation.

I have recently 'downgraded' from SL3 to SL2; hardly used SL2 bodies are found at decent price around. Main (?) disadvantage with SL2 are more noise at high ISOs and, clearly, less advanced (continuous) AF.

I have no experience with S lenses but can offer a view on the cameras you are looking at.

Between the SL2-S and SL3-S I find very little difference in the output, both are excellent in low light, the SL3-S has a slight edge. Autofocus is a little faster and a lot more reliable in low light with the SL3-S.

In my experience, the SL3 is a big step better for low light compared to the SL2, almost at the level of the SL-S camera. However many people are very happy with the low light performance of the SL2, particularly after LR denoise, so you may not care about that.

Lastly of course there is the upgraded menu system, control buttons have moved and then tilting screen which I find really handy in some situations and have enabled shots that I would have missed otherwise.
