LocalHero1953 Posted September 30 Share #1 Posted September 30 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I downloaded the new Topaz Photo this morning, and uninstalled the old Photo AI. I have no immediate need to use it. Has anyone tried it? Any significant differences? Edited September 30 by LocalHero1953
Advertisement Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Hi LocalHero1953, Take a look here Topaz Studio / Photo - anyone tried it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 30 Share #2 Posted September 30 I tried it - to me it was not worth the money.

M11 for me Posted October 1 Share #5 Posted October 1 What's then the alternative? Do you use Lightroom Classic exclusively? I must say that I used Topaz products a while ago but not anymore since Adobe added great AI functions.
LocalHero1953 Posted October 1 Author Share #6 Posted October 1 (edited) I use Topaz only for sharpening, which it does better than Adobe, but only for difficult images, not all of them. I guess Adobe will eventually up its sharpening game to match its Denoise AI, and then I'd drop Topaz. At the moment I can't do without it for recovering images where I've screwed up the focus (typically theatre shots where I've focused correctly, but the depth of field is too shallow to get every face sharp that should be sharp) Edited October 1 by LocalHero1953

LocalHero1953 Posted October 1 Author Share #8 Posted October 1 A bit more reading around. It seems there is little or no difference between the two versions, but the new version will become the subscription version, while the old one will remain as a perpetual licence with no updates. My recollection was wrong: I don't have a subscription, but bought my perpetual version last October. I have until October to decide if I want to revert to the old version - which I will do: it's good enough for my needs, and I'm sure Adobe will improve its sharpening.
Ken Abrahams Posted October 9 Share #9 Posted October 9 (edited) I think I have the new Topaz Studio. Apparently if you own two active programs such as Giga pixel and Photo AI you can to avoid the subscription. At $30 US per month subscription charge one would need to be using it and charging customers extra for prints. I sometimes use the resizing function and sharpening and or facial detail recovery. The Gigapixel app is much better than the Photo AI upscaling. The first Topaz models would create the most extraordinary artefacts when increasing a slider but the newer versions, the artefacts are minimal. A vast improvement over a few years. Anyway this image taken with the Apo Summicron SL 21 at close range (200mm) to flowers and then applied an extreme crop. I wanted to see how upscaling, denoising and sharpening would go for quality. How far can I push the file and app before it becomes unusable or creates something different, an "accidental affect". It works pretty good and I think I still need to download the recent new version. Camera SL3 Welcome, dear visitor!
