Just had my original S(007) serviced, bought lightly used just over 8 years ago:

Dear Leica Customer,
The camera is extremely soiled and shows heavy signs of use. Besides the repairs an intensive cleaning is necessary.
We would like to offer as follows:
Service S camera

Disassembly
Repair armouring
Adjust sensor position
Repair position sensor
Repair spirit level
Repair Wifi module
Repair flap of card slot
Clean view finder
Clean eyepiece

Repair mirror bumpers
Adjust AF module

Repair exposure meter

Clean focussing screen

Adjust electr. / mech. assemblies
Clean sensor

Electronic autofocus adjustment
Cleaning Final inspection

Cost was just under 1000UKP inc VAT, very happy with the result

This comes-up every once in a while. Some of the items where Leica service says "repair" are more like "calibrate." Leica will check/fix the sensor position, spirit level, wifi (if applicable), exposure meter, mirror bumpers, etc., every time they service an S. They will also tell you if the camera is dirty or scratched, because some Leica customers complain if their worn camera comes back worn.

The good news is that the cost is very fair, compared to other professional camera service, and that the camera will come back completely refreshed, ready for another decade of abuse.

Nice @John McMaster!  I bought mine new in 2018 and have had it serviced twice, but not nearly as bad as yours!  My worst use was likely at the end of a hurricane with 40-50mph winds with sand flying everywhere.  I still rinse it off with a hose before taking it in!

Likely one of the last ‘tanks’ around!
