estenopo Posted September 10 Share #1  Posted September 10 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone. Here are some photos of my Summicron 35, without a serial number. It looks like an 8-piece Leitz made in Canada. Is there any way to find out its build date? Thanks. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Hi estenopo, Take a look here Summicron 35 whitout s/n. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dg4mgr Posted September 10 Share #2 Â Posted September 10 (edited) This lens seems to be made in Germany, as the Canada lenses have "LEITZ CANADA" on the front ring, see photos in the wiki, yours is Wetzlar. https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Summicron_(I)_f%3D_3.5_cm_1:2 The missing serial number is remarkable though. The 8 Element Summicron was made with 10 or 16 blades, yours is a 10 blade. Maybe this indicates an early (< 1963) version, but I am not sure. UliWer Posted September 10 Share #3  Posted September 10 If you look at the second photo you may read „Lens made in Canada“ on the shaft. Seems to be a composite of a lens element and a housing. I doubt that it was produced like this.  3
luigi bertolotti Posted September 11 Share #4  Posted September 11 (edited) Apart the lack of s/n, the LENS MADE IN CANADA is someway an oddity... 8 elements lenses, afaik, usually have "Germany" or "Canada" in Italic fonts... though Lager displays # 2286131 with such a writing : or it's a sort of prototype, or a 3rd party rework, and this is imho more probable What is the minimum focus distance ? I wonder if it could be, originally, a screw mount item. Edited September 11 by luigi bertolotti
jc_braconi Posted September 11 Share #5  Posted September 11 My opinion is that lens is assembled by a Leitz employee from an "attrape" lens, I have some in my collection, also "attrape" cameras were rebuild with spare parts and woks... I agree, Luigi. It is either that or a repair job. I’m sure the lens works perfectly well.  William

You can check the minimum focus distance. 1 metre for LTM, 0.7 for M. William

That's true, but nowadays ,or anyaway when collecting became a businness of its own... but if the lens was manufactured in a "artisan" way, with "casually available" parts at the Ontario factory, this factor was unsignificant.
estenopo Posted September 15 Author Share #11  Posted September 15 Adjunto fotos para aclarar algunos comentarios, lo cual agradezco. Probé este Summicron con una Epson R-D1 y obtuve muy buenos resultados. Welcome, dear visitor! Hi Luigi, I got some testimony from the daughter of a former Leitz Wetzlar employe that his father "made a lot of pictures with the camera and lens" you can see on the picture. I believe it when I got the combo.... Welcome, dear visitor!
