Returning with the day's catch -Benguerra Island, Mozambique  M10 & Voigtlander Nokton 75mm

Benguerra Island is 1 of 6 islands located in the Bazaruto Archipelago Marine National Park, one of the most critical marine sanctuaries in the Indian Ocean.

Located in southern Mozambique, Bazaruto is home to +2,000 fish species & nine marine mammal species, including Humpback, Killer & Southern Right whales,  Whale sharks, Dolphins, a variety of sharks incl. Great White sharks, Bull & Reef sharks, also Manta Rays & 5 species of sea turtles.

Significantly it's home the last viable Dugong population on the East African coast. The island also supports incredible birdlife, along with a substantial population of crocodiles.

Through conservation education the local fisherman have been encouraged to use traditional, sustainable fishing practices. This has seen marine populations bounce back after years of overfishing esp. the 1970s - 1990s by Chinese & Russian trawlers.
