bernstein1234 Posted August 30 Share #1  Posted August 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I'm not mistaken, this lens has not been discussed in this forum, hence I wanted to share the results of 1 week usage and a couple of real-life samples. First off, the lens itself. I got the silver chrome version and I believe it's made of brass. The Mandler has a solid feel to it and focusing ring is very smooth which makes it easy to focus. The aperture ring however has a bit of 'uncertainty' when it comes to dialing the correct value On my copy, turning the ring is not as assuring as the Leica KOB, so I'll still need to put my eyes on which aperture value I use.  Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Hi bernstein1234, Take a look here Mandler 35mm f/2 (a.k.a. Summicron V4 'KOB' replica). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bernstein1234 Posted August 30 Author Share #2  Posted August 30 (edited) The following will be a couple of photos I took in Singapore airport last week, stating the aperture and the approximate distance from the lens to subject. All photos were captured with Leica M10-R in DNG format, with slight adjustments to exposure (+0.50), shadows (+22), highlights (-20) and +26 vibrance and +45 sharpness. #1: About 2 metres to subject (the man in the foreground), wide open at f/2. bernstein1234 Posted August 30 Author Share #6  Posted August 30 #8: This was taken not in the airport, showing how the lens captures such a scene at f8. Focusing point was on the left air-conditioning compressor, about 5 metres away. Welcome, dear visitor! bernstein1234 Posted August 30 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) Overall, what do you guys think of the image quality? For me I think for what I like to capture, which is street photography, this lens certainly delivers. This Mandler 35mm f/2 coupled with the M10-R, produced files (#1 and #2) reminiscent of modern film stocks (e.g. Kodak Gold). At minimum focusing distance or around 1m, the bokeh is quite pleasing, I liked especially #1 for the smooth background blur which is still enough to figure out what's in the background. However, background blur with foliage (#4 and #5) can be quite harsh and distracting so one may take note of the background with this lens wide open. At f/8, I read online and YouTube that the corners are not sharpe, but from #8, the Mandler certainly delivers, for me at least. This lens is certainly a valuable addition to my collection. Exteriorly, it looks handsome and is well-made, small and unobtrusive. Image-quality wise, it produces file sometimes reminiscent of modern film, yet not too retro and hazy-looking, which I think is a nice balance between modern and retro. Overall, this lens is great value!
lct Posted August 30 Share #8 Â Posted August 30 Soungs good. You may wish to check focus shift at around f/4 if the lens is a replica of the Summicron 35/2 v4.
