I have a problem with my Q 3 43. I just wanted to switch it on to take a photo and nothing happened. Something moves in the lens, moves back and forth, the aperture closes slightly, but I can't get a viewfinder image, can't release the shutter, no button works. I removed the battery, waited several minutes and inserted a fresh, full one. The same result. Have any of you had this problem and have you been able to solve it? Or do I have to send the camera in?

Like PRK said, pull your sd card, then pull your battery and turn back on.  If you can't get it on, contact Leica.  Did you buy it new and/or is it under warranty?  Remember that at least 15% of consumer electronics are defective (more in some products).  The odds are that some are just going to die prematurely.  If it's under warranty, and defective, Leica will repair or replace it.  If you purchased it recently, from an authorized Leica dealer, contact them for assistance.

Brief interim report. I just handed the camera over to the dealer to send it on to Leica. After an initial inspection, the dealer said it could be a defect in the shutter unit. I'm curious to see how long the repair will take.

I would think, at a minimum, Leica should offer a loaner unit until your Q issue is resolved. Good luck.

That’s not likely (not common in most industries).  The dealer may offer you a loaner, but not the company.  When you take your vehicle in for warranty, again the dealer may offer a loaner, but not the car company.

I know it differently from the professional services of Canon, Nikon and Fuji. I have been able to borrow equipment from these companies. Leica is unfortunately quite weak in terms of professional service, it seems to me. My dealer couldn't offer me anything at the moment, but I don't care. I still have an SL 3 and a Q2.

Leica has always offered me a loaner when repair times were long. Possibly because I take the equipment directly to Leica NJ office and they have more to offer than a dealer. As an aside, the folks there are very friendly and you can talk directly to the technician if needed.

That's also my experience. I've been in the professional services programs of Canon, Nikon and Leica. I'm not sure why, but several years ago Leica just quietly dropped their program. Canon and Nikon both offered me a loaner when I had a repair that was going to take more than a couple of weeks. However, those situations were rare because they always gave my repairs high priority and I got the equipment back in a matter of days. A good friend (pro shooter) did get a loaner M body from Leica a few months ago because he was having a repair done that was going to take three to four months.
