This elderly guy is using the river near my home to practice for the Ironman Wisconsin which will be held in early September. I just happened to be walking over the footbridge when I heard the splashing down below.

Thanks. I'm not sure if it's for drag or if it's for safety. I see people using them when they're swimming alone, usually out in the lake.

I was thinking further about this and it occurred to me that swimmers probably wear the brightly colored inflatables to make themselves more visible to boaters.
