Requesting Advice on Camera Straps

Greetings from Israel! I was wondering if anyone would share opinions on camera straps. I need a strap for a Leica CL I just bought - any ideas?

In addition, I'm unhappy with both the Leica supplied strap and the Artisan and Artist strap I have for my M6. Ideally the strap would work well around the neck, over the shoulder and also wrapped around my wrist. A big order, I know, but I'd appreciate any input from anyone's personal experience.

Who knows, maybe I'm just too finicky.

Regards,

Alex

The Leica Neopren-Strap is very nice - I use it for my D2X and D200. For the M or CL it is a little bit oversized I think.

I am really happy with the standard strap supplied with the M6TTL.

The Leica strap out of the box works well when travelling. Quick and easy to adjust. Easy to shorten when you are on a plane or you have to move at a run.Easy to lengthen out when you sit back and you want the camera on your lap, or when you are on a bike and it goes over your shoulder. Couple of wraps round the wrist you need it. Works good I reckon. Shift it round all the time without worrying it will undo ar anything stupid.

Alex -

I used a Leica binocular strap for small binoculars (not the strap for compact binoculars, which is just a cord) on my CL, replacing the CL strap that I considered to be unsuitable. The next owner of that CL liked the strap, too.

I have a neoprene strap which spreads the load very well but can be rather uncomfortable in hot places (like Israel), this is because the rubber does not "breathe" and you soon get wet around the collar! I would not buy one again and would go for leather instead.

Cheers,

Pete.

I use a Domke Gripper strap on several cameras, and I really like the strap. It is well constructed, very flexible, is comfortable, and I heartily recommend it. I bought it at my local camera shop here in the USA. Cost was about $15.00. Jim

I've used Leica "R4" straps ever since they came out - and long before I began using Leica cameras. These are about 1/2" (1.5 cm) woven nylon straps with a rubber pad for the shoulder, slightly wider than the strap. The attachments are metal "crumpled U" loops with a plastic sliding lock to ensure they cannot come off.

Every time I try the wider and softer straps, they are so large that I feel like the camera is hanging from a piece of women's underwear.

I'll second Andy's endorsement. I also have several older Olympus (OM) straps that are similar, except for the pad.

I found the original Leica strap does the job very well too, except the anti-slip shoulder/neck pad sometimes makes my neck very uncomfortable when I am wearing a shirt with no collar.

Yesterday I visited B&H to look at straps, armed with advice from the Forum. I looked at the Domke and the Lowe Pro recommended above and liked them both. Patrick, the salesman, suggested that I look at a similarly priced Tamrac N-17. I like it better than the others. You can see it here, but I bought the plain black one:

BTW: Starting about two years ago B&H changed from a curt, almost rude place to one with a high level of customer service.
