ossifan Posted August 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings from Israel! I was wondering if anyone would share opinions on camera straps. I need a strap for a Leica CL I just bought - any ideas? In addition, I'm unhappy with both the Leica supplied strap and the Artisan and Artist strap I have for my M6. Ideally the strap would work well around the neck, over the shoulder and also wrapped around my wrist. A big order, I know, but I'd appreciate any input from anyone's personal experience. Who knows, maybe I'm just too finicky. Regards, Alex

cbretteville Posted August 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2006 Alex, I have a Leica Neoprene strap (part #42162) for both my M6 and D2 and am really happy with those combinations. It is really a binocular strap, but works great on my cameras.
ossifan Posted August 29, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks! I'll have a look. A friend of mine just moved to Norway. All the best, Alex
Guest smep Posted August 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2006 The Leica Neopren-Strap is very nice - I use it for my D2X and D200. For the M or CL it is a little bit oversized I think. I am really happy with the standard strap supplied with the M6TTL.
rob_x2004 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 29, 2006 The Leica strap out of the box works well when travelling. Quick and easy to adjust. Easy to shorten when you are on a plane or you have to move at a run.Easy to lengthen out when you sit back and you want the camera on your lap, or when you are on a bike and it goes over your shoulder. Couple of wraps round the wrist you need it. Works good I reckon. Shift it round all the time without worrying it will undo ar anything stupid. stuny Posted August 29, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2006 Alex - I used a Leica binocular strap for small binoculars (not the strap for compact binoculars, which is just a cord) on my CL, replacing the CL strap that I considered to be unsuitable. The next owner of that CL liked the strap, too.
elansprint72 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a neoprene strap which spreads the load very well but can be rather uncomfortable in hot places (like Israel), this is because the rubber does not "breathe" and you soon get wet around the collar! I would not buy one again and would go for leather instead. Cheers, Pete.
jim_royer Posted August 29, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 29, 2006 I use a Domke Gripper strap on several cameras, and I really like the strap. It is well constructed, very flexible, is comfortable, and I heartily recommend it. I bought it at my local camera shop here in the USA. Cost was about $15.00. grober Posted August 29, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2006 Voigtlander Deluxe camera strap from Cosina is my preferred one because it's flexible and doesn't come with any annoying adjustment buckles or other non-essential hardware. One size fits all; black only. -g
albertwang Posted August 29, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 29, 2006 Lowepro neoprene strap is the best one... why pay lots more for the Leica branded one?

adan Posted August 29, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 29, 2006 I've used Leica "R4" straps ever since they came out - and long before I began using Leica cameras. These are about 1/2" (1.5 cm) woven nylon straps with a rubber pad for the shoulder, slightly wider than the strap. The attachments are metal "crumpled U" loops with a plastic sliding lock to ensure they cannot come off. Every time I try the wider and softer straps, they are so large that I feel like the camera is hanging from a piece of women's underwear. nyrich Posted August 29, 2006 Share #13 Posted August 29, 2006 I've never found anything better than the Domke Gripper. The 1" width seem to work very well with an M. Rich

I also have several older Olympus (OM) straps that are similar, except for the pad. Bob
ckli Posted August 30, 2006 Share #15 Posted August 30, 2006 The Leica strap out of the box works well when travelling. Quick and easy to adjust. I found the original Leica strap does the job very well too, except the anti-slip shoulder/neck pad sometimes makes my neck very uncomfortable when I am wearing a shirt with no collar. Peyton Hoge Posted August 30, 2006 Share #16 Posted August 30, 2006 I don't think any strap is too comfortable with a shirt without a collar.
pascal_meheut Posted August 30, 2006 Share #17 Posted August 30, 2006 I've used many of them but recently, I saw that Reichman from luminous-landscape recommended the UpStrap : UPstrap Professional Non Slip Camera Straps I bought one and it never slides from the shoulder. So now I use it with the M, the R9+DMR and even the small Domke bag.
ossifan Posted August 30, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted August 30, 2006 Thank you all! I really appreciate your answers and comments. I'll be looking into the various straps you have recommneded. Thanks, again, Alex
stuny Posted September 1, 2006 Share #19 Posted September 1, 2006 Yesterday I visited B&H to look at straps, armed with advice from the Forum. I looked at the Domke and the Lowe Pro recommended above and liked them both. Patrick, the salesman, suggested that I look at a similarly priced Tamrac N-17. I like it better than the others. You can see it here, but I bought the plain black one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=TAN17SF&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=218296 BTW: Starting about two years ago B&H changed from a curt, almost rude place to one with a high level of customer service.
