n8fire Posted August 3 Share #1 Posted August 3 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m sorry if this question has been asked before but i couldn’t find anything searching for this but I was wondering if there are any ND filters still available today for the Summilux 24mm which uses Series VII filters? I have the Leica UV filter which is great for protection (although hood on its own does a good job) but I haven’t seen anything still available retail from an ND perspective? I very much like using the lens at wider apertures but the electronic shutter isn’t idea for some situations and that’s obviously not an option on my MP…. LeicaR10 Posted August 3 Share #3 Posted August 3 n8fire, You can find Series VII filters on eBay and Tiffin makes them as well. r/ Mark
n8fire Posted August 4 Author Share #4 Posted August 4 OK thanks but I don’t think Tiffen still makes them according to their website so I guess it is eBay then. I obviously did a google search and checked with my local leica dealer who weren’t aware of an ND option in series VII being available today and I guess I was hoping for some kind of reputable well-known dealer option but I guess this is too niche nowadays. darylgo Posted August 4 Share #5 Posted August 4 (edited) Series 7 is nearly impossible and the quality is suspect with older filters. This thread talks about 49mm filters fitting. Alternatively, buy the adapter, availability questionable also, and use 72mm filters iirc. Third alternative is buy a filter that will fit, likely 49 or 52mm thread, remove it from it's mount and stabilize it within the hood. I've attempted to remove series 7 filters form their mount for use with another series 7 glass....the result was poor, 100% failure. Fourth alternative is buy a Leica series 7 Polarizer, approx. 1- 1.5 stops of density. Fifth alternative, sell the lens, buy something else.....and regret it like me. Series filter are good documented under Apotelyt.com. Search for "filter". Also, you can start with your Leicafilter, one does not need protection. Put the glas into the bin and find an ND filter that fits. Or find a larger one and ask your optician to make it fit.
