Hi everyone,

I recently inherited a Leica M3 and I’ve been trying to learn more about it. Based on what I’ve read online, I believe it dates back to around 1954, but I’m not entirely sure. I would really appreciate it if someone could help confirm the production year – the serial number is 703738

The camera appears to be in good condition and seems to be working properly.

I’m also curious to know how much this camera might be worth today, roughly speaking. I’m not looking to sell it right away, but I’d love to understand its value and place in Leica history.

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!

Best regards,

Welcome and enjoy your camera. It looks like a nice and clean one. Sorry, but the Forum does not allow valuations.

  • jaapv changed the title to Inherited Leica M3 –

At the top of this window, you can find the switch LeicaWiki.

The M3 started at serial number 700.000, so yours is an early one. The first ones were with a double stroke to transport the film. Later on, they changed it to single stroke.

My friend had an early one, I remember (vaguely). The M3 was a hype. Yours looks very new still. For the value of the camera, have a look at Ebay.
