Since the lens is coated, I only use a clear filter with the hood since I live in a dusty environment.   I found a hood cap similar to the original one except it has a padded black leather covering and is embossed with the Leica logo.  Don't recall where I got it, but I used it on my Q2 and always liked this one.

I don’t use a lens hood on any of my lenses, let alone a lens cap. On the Q3, I just use a 49mm Leica UV filter. Always ready to shoot!

No hood or cap on my Q2 Monchrom just a yellow filter most of the time but will put the hood on if out in the rain and a 3d printed cap that sort of plugs into the hood that Red Dot cameras in London gave me

Since the OG Q in 2015 I only use B+W Clear Filters on my Qs and depending on my mood the ring to secure the thread or one of the Leica Lens hoods (original or vented).

Never had an issue.

Best

I never use a lens cap on any camera - filter and hood are ample protection. Lens caps? I have lost ones strewn all over the landscape worldwide, contributing to microplastic pollution.

Thanks for all the comments. Consensus seems to be a protective filter and hood, with the lens cap relegated to use in the bag or when stored. This is good to hear and should save me a bit of money in the future because, like @jaapv I too have left many a lens cap behind in my travels. (Also a few filters as well.)

Factory hood at all times, and a quality filter 99% of the time (only removed if the light is difficult, it’s only happened a few times.)  The factory cap is safe in the box, I use one of the cheap Chinese leather caps over the factory hood in the bag when not actively out shooting.

That's why I always get a less expensive  cap and keep the Leica caps in the box at home.  Lost caps always seem to happen on a bridge over a rushing river.

As I work with filters (ND / CPL) quite often, I bought the PolarPro - MagFlip Hood that comes with an aluminum lens cap. The lens cap is only mounted when transporting the camera.

The hood provides substantial protection. At the same time I can just flip the hood and have access to the filters. Use a magnetic system (Urth) where the magnetic ring is always mounted.

Personally I use the Match Technical lens cap.  No filter.

Attached so impossible to lose.  Rubber so protective to a degree.  Works well.
