Ken Abrahams Posted July 13 Share #4 Posted July 13 I have never seen this and wonder if it could have been extreme temperature changes that caused the fogging?

LD_50 Posted July 13 Share #6 Posted July 13 Shouldn’t happen. Take it in for Leica to assess.
LeicaR10 Posted July 13 Share #7 Posted July 13 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sebben, I experienced this twice with my SL cameras, 601 and SL2. In my case it was caused by a sudden temperature drop while at Glacier National Park in Montana in the late autumn. I was up in the mountains hiking and temperature dropped 20+ degrees in minutes. It cleared up later in the day with the sunshine and gradual warming. You might have different conditions or cause. r/ Mark 1
sebben Posted July 13 Author Share #8 Posted July 13 @LeicaR10 Thanks, reassuring to hear that it happens to other bodies as well. It's also what I would expect to happen in your situation as 20+ degrees is a big swing in such a short period of time. This happened to me after taking it outside from indoors but the difference in celsius was only a few degrees so this is why I am surprised. I thought the IP rating would make it more resilient. If this happens more often I'll check in with Leica.
LeicaR10 Posted July 13 Share #9 Posted July 13 Sebben, Now that you mentioned the conditions to your experience, my friend who is also a Leica SL shooter had a similar event at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah last year. He was out in relatively cool weather in late November and went from being outdoors all morning to inside the motel room that was just warm. His top screen got moisture inside his SL2. He took it back outside in the sun and it cleared up. I normally use freezer bags and a cooler to move my gear from inside/outside and back to stop condensation from happening on the lenses and sensors in both cold and humid conditions like in Central America/Florida in the summer. You are right, one would think the IP rating would be more resilient. But that might be for the body seals, etc. Might ask Leica Customer Care what they say about the moisture in the screen. r/ Mark

It is a very straight line. Could it be, that you choose a format different from 3x2? Just an idea.
hoolyproductions Posted July 13 Share #11 Posted July 13 This didn't happen to me and I have regularly used my SL2-S in the extremes of Finnish winter, returning to a warm house. I've also used it in quite hot and humid environments. I think it would be worth contacting Leica customer service and asking their opinion.
sebben Posted July 13 Author Share #12 Posted July 13 @hoolyproductions Which lenses are you using? I’m wondering because I am using a R Adapter and that obviously doesn’t have any weather sealing gaskets…
hoolyproductions Posted July 13 Share #13 Posted July 13 When I am working in 'extreme' temperatures it is usually the 24-90mm, sometimes the 90-280mm. So yes, only L mount lenses.
