At my local camera shop there is a Summicron 50 f2 second hand in mint condition for sell which is the “demo unit for polyphoto” version. I think is the v5 version. The price is 1550 euros. I didn’t find many information about this particular lens. Could it be a more valuable version compared to the standard one? Is it that price fair? Welcome, dear visitor! Now 1,550 EUR is a fair price if the lens is in good condition. Edit: The lens is not 6-bit coded though IINW. I would add coding costs to do fair comparisons then. I'll pass then! many many thanks for this info I'm not sure but the set is from the 90s i believe and 6-bit coding appeared 10+ years later. jgeenen Posted July 13 Share #9 Posted July 13 The Summicron 50mm Version IV was introduced in 1979, the shape has changed in 1994 (including the built-in hood) and named Version V (the optical formula remained the same). 6-Bit codes had been introduced in 2006 with the advent of the M8. Thus all Summicron V5 built between 1994 and 2006 had no 6-bit-codes by default. I think, at some point in time in the early 2000's Leica changed the box layout from white to silver, so the demo unit you are looking at had been produced most likely more than 20 years ago. If you add the cost for a full service and professional 6-bit-coding you will be in the ballpark of what Leica Summicrons of the latest generation are being sold for.
