Another Leica look example 👀https://youtu.be/GOOIiIzrCbQ?si=RLqxbA4xsJjBJdLY

A nice video, but she is forgetting one thing: the Sony clearly has far more in-camera processing and sharpening than the Leica. It is easy to make the Leica shots look exactly as processed as the Sony ones in post. I doubt whether the lenses have anything to do with it. She should have tested on the same camera body. And even then, there is the difference in sensor requirements.

It is a good effort at comparing camera systems, but not at comparing lenses.

I have no idea what the Leica look is about but,...I regularly take pictures of my grand daughters, with the camera I have on hand, and give A4 or A3 prints to the parents.

They recently asked me to preferably print out pictures taken with the M and 50mm Summilux...they probably know what the Leica look is 🙂

What we know so far about the Leica Look can be summed up this way.

Leica glass is more simple, less glass, allowing more micro contrast and less aggressive sharpness…👀

I’m not sure that is a “Leica Look”, as has been discussed.  The thing about digital Leicas (I assume the images were taken using a digital camera) is that,  at least with the M system, you have a sensor designed for M lenses, with a thin cover glass, no anti-aliasing filter and limited processing baked into the DNG file; whereas many other cameras (I’m thinking primarily of my iPhone and Sony cameras) have a lot more going on in camera.

That doesn’t make for a “Leica Look”, rather a differrent starting point for processing.

I don’t believe the existence of a specific look can be attributed to out of the camera JPEGs, nor do I think that Leica lenses have a consistent, specific look across the range.  But they are very good - particularly the M lenses for their compromises, and the SL APO lenses for their lack of them.  But do a scientific test of a given top of the range lens from all reputable lens makers, and I suspect the thesis of a “Leica Look” falls apart.  Similarly, across 100 years of camera lens making, the lenses are all different, some fabulous, some not so much - what is the consistent “look” about those lenses (if we accept that the film cameras are just dark boxes to hold film)?

That doesn’t mean that Leica cameras and lenses don’t provide a great starting point, for those who appreciate that approach.  I have Salgado’s large format books Genesis I & II - impossible to tell which image was taken with film and which with his digital Canon …

I have mentioned here before, but saw his Genesis exhibition in London, and it was exactly as you say looking at 2m x 1m prints on (very) close inspection.

I suspect there is multiple repetition in this thread - anyone seeking to be informed left long ago!

Let's start discussing the pedestal to put Leica on. It needs plenty of gold and precious stones.

The best pedestal I can think of is around your neck…📷

Something which I find excruciatingly painful is having to be endure comparison 'tests' by people whose validity as testers is unknown and who can pick up gear and evaluate it immediately. It takes me months or even years to fully appreciate cameras and lenses. Their abilities are not easy to determine without a great deal of experience of how they handle a grat variety of situations and even after years of use they can sometimes surprise. When I need a lens for a specific purpose it becomes very difficult to find valid, clearly experience based information on the web. There is a vast amount of simplistic, repetitive stuff out there and a clear belief that the most expensive is usually the best (not true in many situations) and 'reviews' become boringly frustrating quite quickly. So posting any video reviews has no relevance IMO unless the presenters clearly state their credentials and length of experience of using the equipment they are discussing - few ever do.

I am pretty sure you guys are still all arguing with an AI bot. There has never been a denial, which is weird. And if not, well, does it even matter? I mean there were images posted awhile back that were clearly not even made with a 50mm lens, along with all sorts of other weird discrepancies (hallucinations).

Only confusing indicator is shown as "Premium Member' which should mean Subscription paid, unless this can be spoofed too.

First of all, by Leica looking you’ll see it’s also a red camera.

Second of all, the thumb rest closely matches the color of the lens and the back ISO dial.

Third of all, will be answered in part two of this series…🥸

@jaapv as a moderator, what is the policy of LUF on bots posing as real people for engagement bait?

People will keep coming into this thread not realizing the actual nonsense this account has been spamming the board with for months now.

The above comment is barely even grammar. There is a reason I do not respond to or mention the above account.
