Dear fellow S users, hi! I hope that you are well. I come once again to the community in search of much needed wisdom about using Hasselblad lenses from the H system on the Leica S 9006 in my instance). I currently have the S and the holy trinity of 2.5 lenses (35CS, 70, 120CS).  The 70 is on long term loan, i can essentially access it at any time but I would ideally prefer to own it, in CS version.

The thing is my heart is split because for the same money I can get HCD28 and 50vII + the adapter here in the UK. The issue is that I heard everything and its opposite about using H lenses on the S cameras.

On the one "pros" hand I read:

- Focuses faster on S than on H bodies!

-Decent or even very good lens performance, with the 28HCD and 50vII regarded as the better ones in the range. MTF for the 28HCD suggest its not so much behing the Leica 24 that cost 3.5x as much... 50v2 I heard compares decently to the Leica 45 again at a fraction of the price.

-Can be adapted on the HTS tilt+shift, something no other digital SLR MF does have? (outside of Cambo+GFX or FF mirrorless... but you still need to buy 3rd party lenses, either vintage MF glass or very pricey schneider LF lenses...)

Now for the "cons" hand:

- Slower, noisier AF than Leica glass

-Lens performance not very good without Focus Raw converter (not sure if still true today, I heard that especially for the 28mmHCD...)

-Dead system prone to failure (and when the shutter fail the lens is unuseable?), repairs night end impossible today or too expensive....

Any help or feedback from experience or advice in choosing between 70Cs or H28+50 welcome...

FYI, one of the Henry's stores in Toronto has a 70CS at a ridiculously low price: $1450 CAD, which is around 775 GBP. I haven't seen the lens myself, so I can't vouch for it. They probably don't have a body to test if the AF motor works.

The easiest way to find it online is via henrys.com. Type "used Leica" in the search bar.

Cheers! I asked for pictures, serial number and if they do ship to the UK.

EDIT @BernardC their website says no shipping outside of Canada 🫠 ….if anybody is willing I can transfer money if the lens is worth it ahaha

Hi, I cannot comment much on the HCD28 because I had it only for one month but I did not notice any optical problems on the S ,  maybe  because the  small S sensor uses the central part of the lens, designed for 645 format. The HC lenses focus well on the S camera and , without any tech measurements, the speed of focusing is Roughly equal. I think that its Contax 645 lenses that focus slightly faster on the S than on the C645.

But I still own the 150n. I have no plans to sell it because it is my only leaf shutter lens in the short telephoto range.
And the HC lenses are a joy to focus manually on the S cameras.

@ynp would you be kind enough to share a picture of it on your S, and possibly some sample images that you like, if at all possible? Many thanks for your feed back!

Sorry, I have had a joint replacement surgery and stay in Europe. My all gear is in Moscow. I will not be able to travel for at least one more month.  I use C1 and nothing is being kept online. Sorry. Please PM me if you have any questions.

That’s understandable. Good luck with the surgery! I was due to travel to Moscow this summer but had to cancel…. Take care!

Thank you  so much. And try to find the Leica CS because the prices are not bad now.
